Best way to clean very dirty STI seats?
I bought an 07 STI from an auction and it was obvious that the previous owner neglected to maintain or keep the car remotely clean in the last several years of his ownership. The drivers seat is heavily soiled, and the seat backing is blackened. What is the best way to clean alcantara that is this dirty? I have done the traditional Sonax alcantara cleaner and soft brush method, it didn't do much. I've seen some people say you can wet vac or steam clean alcantara safely and some people say you absolutely should not. Anyone have any luck with doing either?

Edit: Just a heads up, it seems like you posted this thread twice.
I have steam cleaned alcantara seats with no ill-effects. Granted, they were not super dirty, but if your seats are in poor shape you're going to have to take some risk with either a) steam b) increasingly harsh cleaners c) excessive scrubbing. In my opinion, steam is the least risky of those options. Just be gentle after using the steam and don't let it sit on one spot for too long. If that doesn't work, you can move on to more aggressive methods. |
