Define hardcore. Maybe some aero, Recaro's, better brakes and a big wing but I don't see them changing the AWD system or offering more power at this time.

I saw one in ceramic white for the first time. Somehow that’s the only color I can look at and not want to vomit.
It’s a shame when black is the only color that hides the flaws somewhat. Even more of a shame we’re talking about black Subaru paint I might take one as a company car eventually just as a daily beater. One thing we can agree on is it will still be a blast in the snow… |

Using clickbait torque news as a source to fulfill the requirement. Well played. I would expect Subaru to reach into the parts bin for a future WRX. How deep do they dig is the question. There definitely won't be a hatch. Impreza and WRX have a different assembly process this generation. Developing a hatch would be a ground up effort.

Nothing would get me into a WRX. Subaru has screwed hatbhack customers over for the last 8 years. Toyota has stepped up to the plate and delivered everything Subaru would not. Hatchback, diffs, turbo, AWD with drive modes, 6MT, in a compact car. This is by the way, a segment Subaru owned when they offered a hatchback WRX and a hatchback STI.
I'd maybe give Subaru half a chance if they released a Hatchback STI, full diffs, front and rear, selectable drive modes to send at least 70% to the rear half shafts, a 6MT, a real redline, not 6100 RPM's, but they are never going to do it. They decided that hatchback customers just weren't necessary in 2014 so enjoy them chickens coming home to roost. I supported Subaru during the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009 with my hard earned money which was difficult for me to pay at the time. I remember losing my job, 3 months after I bought my GR, not knowing how I was going to survive yet I paid my payment to Subaru, on time, every time, as I honor my commitments. They on the other hand did not honor or respect their customers and told many thousands of customers to piss off, that their money wasn't wanted or needed in 2014. So be it. I've bought 4 automobiles since and none of them have been a Subaru because of their decisions and how they handled it. You pull this with me I'll take my money elsewhere and did. They could earn my business back. Apologize to your customers you told to F off in 2014 and ever since. Publicly apologize to those customers, and grovel some. Then make a truly incredible product via hatchback. Unless it's all that, just don't even bother. I know you won't anyway. Let me know if you want me to drive by my GR Corolla Morizo or Circuit Edition to one of your dealers. You can take photos of it next to your 6100 redline body cladded sedan only WRX. Would be a nice photo for you to show you how you screwed up. Toyota is not only offering an incredible AWD hatchback product, they are offering it in 3 different trims. |

From a corporate perspective…they are at least trying to give us options for not giving us the GRY. I know they just want our money but it’s admirable. The equivalent would have been Boobaru giving us the Levorg in 2014 with a 6MT. Hey we aren’t going to give you x, but at least here is y, something in the ballpark. At least Toyota, and more importantly, Toyoda, is trying. Instead of showing yesteryear rally racing crap they are doing stuff today, current, and offering models base upon lessons learned trying to race their stuff, even with constant changing of the rules.

Despite complaints about the plastic cladding, the 2022 WRX continues to be a success for Subaru. We are looking at roughly 3 months of sales as this new model didn't hit most dealer lots until April of this year. For the most part there was limited trim availability and CVT wasn't available until much later in the year. Also, in the past on average Subaru sold around 500 STi units a month.

The WRX is competing with the GTI, GLI, and Golf R. You need to add them together. VW buyers have a choice. Subaru buyers got dealt a take it or leave it...again. Except now there's no STI.

Difference is that Subaru produces a boat load of WRXS.
VW doesn’t make as many GTIs and Subaru does WRXs. People compare Subarus sales to the competitors. Really isn’t that fair The Civic Type R is a limited production car. Every single one is numbered. The Focus RS was another limited low production car. Ford kept production #s and info for each car internally. The Evo 8,9, and 10 , but especially 8 & 9 where low volume cars. Mitsu couldn’t produce 1/3rd of what Subaru could pump out for those cars. It’s not *that* fair to sit there and say oh well look how many WRXs we’ve sold! Yeah well guess what - they pump out loads of them, offered VERY aggressive lease specials + financing rebates. No CTR, RS, Golf R OR GTI, or the evo 8/9/10 EVER have had a good lease program or rebates financing specials etc. So based on what you’re saying your top 2 for all time greatest cars should be the Camry and accord. Just because it sells doesn’t mean it’s better Oh and speaking of VWs have you seen what a low mileage MKIV R costs compared to the 04-07 STI? The price of admission is significantly higher for a original collector condition car. Same thing with the evo. Why is that? Because Subaru has always produced waaaaay more than the other two. I’m not biased because I own a MK4 R and a 2005 STI. I’m just saying it how it is. |

That logic is horribly flawed. Wrx, gti, Gli, civic si, are direct competitors for entry sport compact cars. Vw, often the largest car manufacturer in the world, can make as many GTI's as it wants. It never even hit its volume aspirations it scaled to from the 2010's. Subaru, on the other hand is one of the smallest and has been production constrained for over a decade. They sell what they sell in regular production models because of demand.

There is little demand for the GTI in the US hence the poor sales. The more I look at the data, the more it becomes apparent that despite the initial negativity towards the unpainted plastic cladding, this car has been very successful thus far.

VW dealer's have 1 or 2 total and they are going for $10k+ over MSRP. Let's not try to say the GTI/R are not popular amongst their fans. They are basically sold out with people tracking ROROs for their orders to be delivered.
