Awesome progress! Hopefully the setback with engine doesn't keep you off track too long!

Wow!

The knock you heard after the original incident was probably the piston slapping about I presume.

On the one had, sorry it had to happen! But on the other hand, you got the engine out and have made your decisions quickly and are already on the road to something that will be a very nice step up!

These are the wheels I'm looking at.

Enkei RPF118x9.5 38mm offset $486/wheel - 265/35/r18
Ekei RPF1 17x9 35mm offset* $287/wheel - 255/35/r17
Momo heritage 17x9 35mm offset - $330/wheel
Momo heritage 18x9 35mm offset - $350/wheel

Let me know your thoughts and if you have any recommendations. All are welcome!

all of the wheels you listed have very low offset numbers except the first one and thats on the edge

the rpf1 may not clear the brakes without a spacer exacerbating the offset issue

8.5-48 , 9-42 ,9.5-38 - this ones really tough in a gd , ballparks for what i found fits on my rig and i've tried a lot

SSR GTX01 18x9.5 40 offset
Enkei RPF1 18x8 45 offset

I like both of these. Both will clear the brembos. Question is do I go wide with a 9.5 whe or stick with an 8inch wheel. Thoughts?

my response is going to be pretty much post 84

but what happened to the 8.5 and 9 options ?

you are going from one extreme to the other

a wider wheel is better for tracking , use a 255/40/17 or 255(265)/35/18

9" et 40 or 42 is the money shot for these cars

So clean, nice! I know you said you were doing the heads, too. Are those ready to go on as well?

Well it's been awhile but I do have an update for you guys!

After 3 months of waiting on one machine shop to refresh the heads on my ej205 I picked them up and took them to another shop. The new shop was able to turn then around in a week. That has been the main reason for the delay.

I'm currently waiting on valve buckets from flatirontuning. They should be here within a week or two. If you've never set the valve clearance on one of these engines and you like math, it was a pretty cool process. One I honestly enjoyed.

I'll report back once I get the engine assembled and back in the car!

Question:

I'm removing the factory oil cooler/warmer from the ej205 and installing an aftermarket unit. The sandwich plate doesn't mount flush with the block due to the oil pan and headers. Does anyone see an issue with running the factory cooler and disconnecting the coolant lines? I would just be using it to create hight.

I'd use a different sandwich plate or get an extension adapter.

If you are having clearance issues with the oil pan and headers but don't have the timing cover installed yet, you will probably find that you will have clearance issues there too. I did when I went to install just the sandwich plate for my top mount oil cooler. Had to switch from the one that came with the oil cooler to a Mishimoto one (I think) that had a smaller overall diameter and rounder shape. It was also rotated slightly different from the original plan to clear the fittings which were also changed to 45 degree fittings to clear the block.

Custom stuff like this requires that you be creative. I know there are some companies that sell extension sandwich plates that could also resolve your issue without having to run the full height stock oil cooler. One of the main reasons I eliminated mine was oil filter clearance with the headers.

Here is what I came up with. I can't seem to find an adapter that is tall enough so I decided to use the factory oil cooler. (I'll cap off the coolant line ends)

Option 1 is the shorter one, and option 2 is the higher one.

Tell me if I'm wrong.

If it works, then you are good to go. Things might change once you have the motor in the car and can check ground clearance and line routes.

Update: The new engine is back in the car and ready for its 2k mile break in!

After the break in, we will be installing a Haltech ECU and i7 Dash to handle the new mods. The Haltech will allow for a lot more flexibility and the ability to add safeguards.

I'll update you all once the car is on the dyno. In the meantime, I'll be driving.

Thanks,
SJ
