I don't believe a doorbell should have a service fee attached to it. That also means, some sort of ability for the manufacturer to spend the extra $0.25 to build-internally 16GB of onboard storage, or allow you to put in your own microSD card, or write to an external storage location (e.g. FTP, dropbox, etc).

<-- Wants all the cool features, but no service fees ever.

Not much good for security or record if all the thief has to do is rip it off the wall.
Blink XT can do what you want.

This looks promising.

2. They were just acquired. What does that do to their future plans, products, release dates, longevity?

3. They have no product direction. weather products, security, and air purification. It's like Parrot, who made great car bluetooth hands-free things, tried to get into RC drones, and now I have no damn clue where they are at.

But otherwise, yeah, I saw that the other day, which is why I called out dropbox, since it was top of mind as an example... If the price isn't ridiculous, I may have to cave into that.

No doorbell but running Arlo. Up to 5 cameras with no service. They do offer a door bell. I'm not sure if that requires the service though.

More for the flood lights, but recent random complaints from another neighborhood nearby.

Dear dumbass,
1. How about you use your garage for it's intended purpose like..maybe parking your damn car?
2. If you plan on storing a bunch of **** in the garage and keeping your car n the driveway, how bout NOT keeping a removable garage door opener in your car?
3. Turn on the alarm/lock the damn door?

Every single f**king house in my entire neighborhood.

My wife and I are apparently the only people who actually park inside the garage out of like 250 houses.

tldr; over a couple weeks some dirtbags walked door to door to each house on a block trying to open cars doors. Some of the ****heads posting video/gripes not only leave door unlocked, but also leave remote garage door opener in car.

The bad thing for ring is most of the video is pretty much useless due to angle or quality.

Gotcha.
Yeah, there's a yearly rash of 'I left guns/ money/ jewelry in my car, I can't believe somebody broke in and stole it!'
As for angle, that took a long time to get right. Had to negotiate with the wife on aesthetics vs utility

The local police here had to beg people to lock their cars every night. Started sending reminders on social media, 'it's 9 pm, time to lock up!'

They were posting weekly number of firearms stolen from cars for a while too, all were taken from unlocked cars in people's driveways...

A douche I had for a boss for 2 months when I first moved here had his truck stolen form his driveway. Fob and pistol in the cabin. Dude just climbed in and pressed the button. The thief was arrested in a Fred Meyer parking lot where he had stolen food and beer, and was eating and drinking. He must not have found the gun.

Same here. We have a Ring doorbell out front, and I do like getting the neighborhood alerts through the phone app when someone is snooping around cars or stealing Amazon boxes.

It was cheap and easy to install, and for that reason I'm not surprised about the privacy issues, but they can watch UPS come to my door or the lawn service cut the yard all they want.

You should move into a community with a super strict HOA. You sound like you're all set to be a board member. You can run around and regulate how others behave. You'll love it.

This. I'm not in a HOA. My garage is my shop. I'm not parked in front of your house. Mind you own parking.

Funny how that changes by region. In mid-town Atlanta it means something entirely different.

Here it's lost dogs. Bitch, that ain't what this is for, go put up a poster.

That actually is one of the things it's for. It's even once of the categories you select when you make a new post.

My brother-in-law installed one of these recently. He ordered some stuff on Amazon and had it delivered to his house, and around here they also contract some crap delivery company which is notorious for screwing things up. They are infuriatingly bad at what they do.

When he got back from work he saw the package on his doorstep; it contained a pair of shorts instead of the $200 worth of equipment he ordered. So then he looked at the video. The person came and as usual dropped the box in front of the door, took a picture then went back to his car. But then he returned with another box, swapped it with the one he just left then took the original order back with him and left.

It didn't take long for the video to be used as evidence and the delivery guy was fired. Turns out he was stealing from other customers on his route so he probably would have gotten busted anyway.

How do people not realize they are being recorded?

I know this is a 2-year old thread.. but what are people using for wireless (battery) powered doorbell's these days?

I went from the Ring Doorbell 3 to the Eufy 1080p. But returning the Eufy and think I'm going to give Blink doorbell a try or maybe the Wyze...
