Default UPDATE: Finally put UEL headers on my 2.5i!, vid link inside

I can't wait to get them on!

I, like others, had not done my research that our 2.5i's had EL headers, and was a little disappointed when I first got my catback on. I don't really care about getting the extra 3-5 hp out of my car over after market headers, I would rather have my car not sound like a honda. If I was that caught up in performance, I would take out my dash and back seats. Besides, these ebay borla replica ones will be an improvement over stock headers anyways.

If you are just going to troll about EL headers being better than UEL headers, please just don't respond to this thread.

(You will laugh at this in regard to catback) Blitz Nur Spec R

I know I shouldn't have gone 3", but I wanted to...sound/volume reasons. My bro has an 03 WRX with it on, and it sounded perfect to me, so I tried to get as close to it as I can. By the way, I have noticed no real loss in low end torque.

Trust me, I will have sound clips. I think it is sad that I can't really find many 2.5i's with UEL soundclips out there. My car has been an adventure going through dark and deep waters.

I'll get some pics out too.

Your car will be much louder than your brother's WRX. Turbo's are like mufflers in that sense

Where did you order them from? You can make up that difference in HP with a couple other simple mods. I'm not worried about it either, I can't wait to get my UEL headers.

eBay. Got the A2R V2's. The description actually linked to a thread on nasioc talking about it.

My car is already very loud right now, but I may have to use the silencer after I get the high flow cat and headers on

Then again it may just sound too good to be able to do that.

your going to love it! i have a borla header, 2.25in header back no cat or resonators on my 06' and i am in love with it. lol. not really, but i do love it. i feel the same way about the UEL and EL thing as you do. 3-5 hp is not enough, plus its very true the borla header and replica is a step up from stock and not to mention alot lighter. just a thought. keep us updated. I will get up some video of my car as soon as i can i have been swamped at work and college.

Join the club. I'm running 3" hks cf/ti catback on my 05 rs. All it does is shift your torque power band a little higher in the RPM range.

Also, in response to the high flow cat post, I am probably going to just see what they have at the shop. It is Muffin Mufflers in Austin, and I have heard good things about them, so I am guessing they have a good selection.

I just called them up, and was told that you can't touch the catalytic converter if it is under 50k miles. Is this some kind of law in texas or something?

I have a question for everyone. Will just my stock cat be enough to pass emission testing? I know my stock headers, or "exhaust manifold" has a cat in it, so I want to be able to pass emissions when I get my borla replicas in.

Also, turns out they are being shipped from somewhere closeby, so they will be on sooner than I thought.

actually, it's a federal law, no shop can replace a "working" cat...... find a shop/person that completely trusts you... or just order a HFC/Pipe section from a company.....

It's 80k that a functional cat can't be replaced or removed. They can only (legally) be removed/replaced if they don't work.

More then likely, NO. Your stock CAT and exhaust were designed for your stock EL headers, not the UEL headers. Reason being the lengths of the two are different. Because your UEL headers were designed for an 05 Impreza, well the overall length of the headers-exhaust changed in 06.

So, in buying those UEL headers, you will have to get a new CAT and exhaust to go with it, ie: something made for an 05 Impreza.

(If I'm wrong someone please correct me, but thats what I got out of all these EL/UEL threads.)

I had thought that the new cat was more of just a new catpipe, since the flanges don't match up. I know that my borla replicas will set off a CEL light, but I was just planning on doing a CEL fix (adding different resistors or a spacer)

Good news! They are on a FedEx truck out to my house as of 7:15 am this morning! The vendor lived in Dallas, so shipping didn't take long at all. If the headers aren't here by 2:30, I will have to wait until 9 to be able to see them.

just get the 05 catpipe and extend the o2 sensors to connect to the 05 catpipe. hasn't this proven to be done without CELs?

will the 06 midpipe bolt up to the 05 catpipe?

Whoops, I had forgotten to say that I had a 2" or so extension welded onto the midpipe of my blitz nur spec r. I would rather just have the flange on my current catpipe rotated to match up the flange on the headers, if this is possible. As of right now, it would be the shortest and easiest solution.

My exhaust is a mess

Yes keep us posted. I would love to put headers on just for the fact that it will make it so much easyer to get to the oil filter.
