Overheating uphill issue
Hi guys.. so I have a Wrx 03
No big mods.. Sti intercooler Sti injectors Vf48 turbo Walbro 255 FuelPump Uppipe STI Stage one tune Previous owner had the car running with straight distilled water (maybe with water wetter.. not sure) I decided to change it from water to coolant.. some days after, car started to overheat when going uphill I thought it was the thermostat and waterpump Yesterday I Did the timing belt kit replacement with new oem waterpump and oem thermostat as well Went for a drive and still overheating uphill.. I replaced rad caps, waterpump and thermostat.. Im between the radiator or the HG Not sure what to think…. Car is not leaking , hoses are fine and oil dipstick looks clean.. no white smoke, no stalling, no rough idle.. Any ideas??? Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC

Overheating uphill is a capacity issue. So, either not full of water, or rad is dirty or rad too small

Did the water have any gunk in it when you drained it? I can agree with Rodman, Subaru's seem to be pretty finicky when it comes to air in the system. My car was overheating b/c of the same thing. Turns out I was doing it all wrong.

Water came out pretty clean.. coolant looks pretty decent But the water pump was corroded as hell.. it had a lot of calcium like deposits. So i wouldnt be surprised if there is some left in the radiator Im getting a new radiator on monday.. lets see how it goes Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC |

A coolant filter kit for a 7.3 turbo diesel will clean the cooling system in less than a month. I have had them so bad no number of flushes would clean it out, next day it would always be muddy water in there. Coolant filter cleared it right up. I’m a believer.

A friend had an extra stock oem radiator.. he’s gonna give it to me tomorrow to see if a new radiator solves the problem.. Planning on buying a koyo or mishimoto in the near future. But right now, i just wanna find out the root of this overheating problem Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC |

Overheating uphill issue
Quick update guys! So I got my friends radiator (slightly used) yesterday and I put it.. Went for a drive.. and temperature is finally behaving the way it should be! Thankfully it was the radiator. Anyways, I’ll keep an eye on it but yeah, problem solved Thank you guys for your inputs Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC |

A Lisle funnel is a good investment to ensure you don't have any air in the system anytime you are messing with the radiator or coolant system.
