Default Cobb green speed update

Hey guys,
today seems like a bad day. A couple of my fellow wrx owners just shared this with me:

it looks like cobb is disabling tuning for TGV deletes, catless setups, speed density, etc. from their accessport software. What exactly does this mean for us with future build plans?

My hawkeye STi is currently on a stage 2 Etune map, but I was planning on doing more upgrades and going stage 3 in the near future, and possibly even a bigger turbo / built motor down the road, but I don't know how this is really going to affect my plans to do so. I still havent finished reading the full article, but from the talk of my friends it seems as though tuners will no longer be able to utilize the AP software to do dynotuning and e-tuning which really sucks. I absolutely love these cars, and now Im really wishing I was born like 10 years earlier

Let me know what your thoughts on this are, all questions are welcome I just wanted to shed some light on this topic, because I started panicking and couldn't find any current threads on it, as it seems like this was just announced by cobb the other day.

If you have any emission related stuff turned off /removed your screwed. I was planning to put my vf48 in in a couple months but now im screwed. I dont have the secondary air pump in my swap and have no way to install it. Im gonna have to get a standalone now

Well I do already have a custom tune downloaded on the car. But lets say If I wanted to get TGV deletes in the next month or so, my E-tuner wont be able to send me a new custom map with the necessary revisions?

Correct. And it also sounds like all maps previously installed may be affected as well if you try to update the accessport.

Absolutely do not update your AP if you have any custom tunes.

Okay noted. Really appreciate the replies guys. I wonder what this is going to mean for big tuners in the community like Baderbuilt. They really out here ruining peoples careers and livelihood. This **** sucks.

Question Rotated Setup on Cobb Still Possible?

Is it still possible to go with a rotated build using Cobb tuning software? I have heard speed density is still an option, but I’m not sure how much emissions things like the cats, tgv deletes, etc. hold the car back at say 500 + hp. Currently I can’t touch the tune on my car because Im running a catless DP, but I’m considering switching to a catted one in the future.

Chill, Im somewhat new to the community and I find some of those channels very informative, in terms of diy modding. Not all of us are planning to keep our cars stock / pay someone else to do the work for them dumbass

I mean I guess hes not super big, but it seems like a lot of people are going to him to get their cars dialed in for big power. How does watching youtube make me a snow flake? Lol I learn a lot about diy modding from those channels. This is the first car I've worked on and Ive done all my mods and maintenance myself so far, unlike some people I actually want a big power set up down the road...

I was also a huge fan of erector sets back in the 80's. But my favorite toy, that usually broke within a day, was the Evil Knieval Stunt Cycle.

Update as of today: https://www.cobbtuning.com/green-spe...te-april-2022/. Sheesh looks like if you are running flex fuel or any restricted parts you are screwed as they are removing the ability for tuners to adjust needed perimeters even to support existing builds. Unless i'm missing something?

Yep, as much as I love subarus it might be time to keep my car how it is and switch to a new platform. Big RIP to all the Subi modders out there

How does stand alone tuning work? Would you have to remove the ECU from the engine? I am not super familiar with tuning in general I guess.

It means the community will have to use Ecutek to tune instead of Cobb.

Correct, You will have to reinstall the TGV & EGR. Or get an Ecutek tune.

A stand alone is an ECU & Custom Engine Harness. Stand alones are not ideal for a daily driver or trackday car. This is usually reserved for racing or if you are doing a custom setup (e.g. GTR motor in a STI chassis).

Are there not any open source tuners in your area? I didn't even consider cobb tuning as one of the best tuners in my area uses open source

It’s a 14 day to update or get locked kind of deal- so they have 14 days.

I wasn’t planning anything crazy anyways but wanted a vf48HF and a few other things.

It’s going to suck because now I’ll have to keep the stock downpipe to avoid a CEL and pass emissions….

Speed density should not be affected on Subaru. The real problem here is the ability to tune FlexFuel as it uses an emissions input and you have to disable the codes for that input. I believe they may be working on a CANbus option, but I can't say for sure. Older cars (pre-2008) won't benefit from that option.

For the most part, TGV's aren't really worth removing for most people anyway and running a proper cat shouldn't be a concern either. So basically, we're back to making multiple maps for people wanting to run different ethanol contents.

A proper race car should be on a stand alone anyway. To answer the question above on this, yes, it is an ECU replacement.

The AccessTuner Race software which reached back for server authentication will cease to work in 14 days, I believe, which makes this seem planned and you lost your money. Older versions that did not do this, will still work.
