Getting someone to cut rust out and weld in new metal. Not sure if I will buy metal part from Subaru yet. Waiting formy welder to check it out.

I assume this didn't happen overnight. So much for NY state inspection.

Seriously, if you are at the point where your rear tower is rusted out, give the car frame a good looking over. You may have serious frame rust issues that may require repair OR you may find out that the car is not worth repairing.

I had an issue 2 years ago with rear tower rust. Wasn't too hard for the shop to fix.

Earlier this year, found that the frame was so badly rusted that the car had maybe 6 months to live before it came apart. It was not worth the $6K to repair especially when you take into account all the other rust that was showing elsewhere underneath the car.

Thanks. Yeah the rest of the car is in great shape. It was garaged. This was a Subaru failure where water comes in the seat bracket. Funny my right side looks brand new. This is a known issue for the 02-07 wagons. Rust is only on the inside. No rust on quarters.

I am keeping this car forever if possible.

It’s a known issue. I should have checked long ago, got lazy and recently heard a noise so pulled the suspension. It was a small amount of surface rust on the top when I did the suspension about 5 years ago, but I did not see the rust on the side where the seat bracket is. You can’t see that without taking interior apart.

Even if it costs 5-700 bucks, the rest of the car is in great shape. She’ll go another 17 years.
