Dam STis...
Ok was wondering what to do and could use some input, thanks... One other thing, what kind of rotors do you suggest that would be equal in quallity, or better but not at a crazy price?

Yep having the issue and dealer said they ordered the 07 pads. Don't you like how a car manufacture treats you after you buy the car. Before you buy the sales people will do just about anything to sell you a car, but after it's all about saving money or in some cases making money for a service department.

FWIW:
I use stock SOA rotors (relatively cheap online) and Ferodo 2500 pads (thanks to 'BIGSKY' for that suggestion!). The Ferodos are expensive but they perform very well, last a long time, don't squeal, don't eat rotors (like the Hawk HP+ pads I tried a while back), and are easy to modulate. They do put off some dust, but it is easy enough to wash off and doesn't seem to be corrosive. |

Now i am supposed to pay for new pads and rotors?????? I DONT THINK SO What should i do next????? |

24,000 miles or 24 miles?
Actually the rotors can be resurfaced as many times as needed until the 3 years or 36,000 mile mark is passed. They are covered by warranty, but SOA can authorize replacement for certain circumstances. The brake pads can be replaced only if they are worn below 1.5mm which is covered by the wear item warranty. Tell the service writer to look into his policy and procedure guide and he will find that out. As a precaution, I would call SOA and start a case file with them about it being your service rep appears to be uninformed. Or do what Kelly said and go to a different dealer. |

I actually have 24000 miles (closer to 25 now). I just find it hard to swallow that my brakes would go bad from the car sitting their. I have had cars sit for 4-6 months and had no probs with them.
How do i get a hold of SOA? |

Go back to the dealer. Bring a yellow highlighter with you. Ask your advisor to pull a "Coverage Inquiry" on your vehicle. Ask to see it. Go to the second coverage listed and highlight it. It will say "Brake pad coverage" It will tell him the date and mileage the warranty on the brake pads expires.
Or, PM me your VIN and I will email you a copy you can bring into them pre-highlighted...LOL |

Surface rust from sitting one or two days will generally wear off after a few brake applications. However, if the car isn't driven for some time, that "surface rust" can eat into the rotor to a point where they cannot be machined to specs again. You know, rust never sleeps. It is common to be able to see heavily rusted areas from right under the pads on a car that has been sitting in a wet environment.

Well, I talked to SOA yesterday, got a file # and they are going to contact the service manager during my next appt to get a status of my car. Hopefully this does not get worse. I do my own oil changes, rotations, etc. I know how some places are like "well sir, you did not bring in the car for your regularly schedule maintenance so...BS BS BS".
Thanks for all the help!! You all got me in the right direction. |

That doesn't mean anything. There is not a law that states you have to bring it in for service in order to obtain warranty. Infact, there is an act put in place in 1975 that forbids it.

Yes, but you still have to be able to show your service records to maintain your warranty. The law states you don't have to have it serviced at your dealer. The problem with doing your own work is that your "records" are always suspect. I've seen instances of oil change receipts from independent shops, dated 3 months and 3000 miles apart, with sequential RO numbers on them. How that shop stays in business doing one oil change every three months amazes me!

I have seen some "fishy" maintenance records myself and some my Rep just laughed at and said no way. When the invoice numbers are in reverse order than the dates of those services, then you know they are fudged |
