Sweet write up.

I've had the steering wheel in my 07 XT for about 6 months now and have been waiting for someone w/ electrical wiring knowledge to do a write up like this.

Kudos.

i know what he has. just because he has a DAMD doesnt mean anything lol...granted it looks 10x better imho but it still doesnt look outdated at all.

well whatever your entitled to your opinions lol, but i love it. if i had a better photo it would look better...trust me.

What's missing for me from the GRB stock wheel is the contrasting stitching and perforated leather. Not that the GRB looks bad in older years.

i do agree. i wish it was stitched like my 05 wheel. i really want the DAMD...but cant justify spending that much on the wheel..(and well im being cheap about it).

the only thing that kind of urks me a tad, is the shade of leather on the 08 is a little lighter than my 05 wheel.

Default Empty plug on roll connector?

Great right up, I am currently working on this conversion. I have one question though, does anyone know were to get a harness that will acually plug into the unused plug on the roll connector? I know it is not manditory, I am just super anal about my wiring, needs to be stock as possible. Thanks in advance.

Yes you can do this. I was actually going to do this for xxscaxx, but he had already cut up his factory cruise harness.

I actually found some extra wire harnesses that I had lying around from my car audio/alarm days. They didn't "snap" in like the factory plug did, but was snug enough to where it shouldn't come out.

I used my clockspring in my 05, but any wheel should fit onto the column spline. If you are just swapping over what i did, you shouldn't have any problems. I have talked with a bunch of people who have told me that the column splines are all the same (They tested it).

d0ugch0i - thanks!

Yes, this is correct! Only thing I am unsure of is if the 07 is single or dual stage airbag. If its dual stage then you can skip the charge swap part as well!

are you planning on putting some of that carbon wrap around the steering wheels buttons? I think that would tie it all together

So you did the swap to gain Audio controls only? They're both 3-spoke wheels aren't they? I'll be the first to admit that I'd love to have wheel-mounted audio controls.

it's dual for 07!!

I made a mistake and I ordered the 07 one thinking I'll get the buttons and will be plug and play... wrong....

Now I have 2 choices:
- either stay with the 07 one and retrofit the buttons housings thru cutting, polishing...
- or either sell the 07 one, get the 08 one and also get the airbag cover for 08... if I'll get 600 I'll sell it... we'll see...

Thx guys...

yes it did but the blanks are a little smaller than 08 and are straight edges on oppose to those on 08 which are rounded... and so on...

Any suggestions for where to get the switches and boards for the wheels, other than the usual channels?

I'd probably do this using a DAMD wheel, so I'd just need the steering wheel controls themselves and the associated boards. Anybody know how much those are from a dealer? Might not be that much...

You have an 08+ airbag already? If so then the switches can be had fairly cheap. I have also seen stock wheels with switches (no airbag) sell for under $75 on eBay and the forums.
