GD prices are showing a slight upswing around here anyway over the past 4 months or so, and I think its partly attributable to the collapse of gas prices making them more attractive to people who want to buy them and drive them.

True no one is going to get rich by scooping up a nice GD STI, unless you are going be here in a 100 years and can keep it in mint condition LOL....but the real takeaway here is that the GD's arent really depreciating anymore, are holding their current values strongly after bottoming out over the past 2 years, and are slightly increasing in good conditon examples with clean titles and history.

GD's in this condition can be driven daily and are reliable and easy to maintain, kind of a no brainer to get into one if the opportunity arises.

All of the above, plus supply delays for new cars, delayed next gen debut, so people are buying used ones, and the overall trend of people wanting to drive and not take public transit, are all contributing to increased demand for GD's as well and driving up prices on good ones. If you own one, hang onto it!

People are saving more money, too, mostly staying at home and not going out as much, and with new car production being slowed by the pandemic, a lot of people are turning to used cars, and their dream cars they watched on WRC as a kid - me included.

I feel guilty with the way I treated my '03 Sonic Yellow WRX. Bought it in 2017 with 30k miles, zero rust, and not a single mod. I didn't really like the performance of it in stock form so I've since put a V7 EJ207 and 6MT into it and got it up to 400whp and now I'm happy. I get this feeling of guilt when I drive it though because it's my daily, and I go for random drives to back roads a lot so I've put about 50k miles on it over the past 3 years. It's no longer the pristine bugeye it was when I bought it. It is much cooler now though imo; it looks so much better with the JDM V7 front end and wheels and is still faster than most new performance cars despite being a $10k 17 year old car.

Any one else go through this feeling? The way I try to look at it, whats the purpose of owning it even if I make a few thousand selling it down the line. I want to enjoy it. In reality it's just a car and not some classic collector either. Once I graduate in less than a year I plan on buying a different daily and turning the bugeye into a completely gutted and rebuilt time attack car. At least it will continue to live on and not be driven to death and thrown in some junkyard, right?

FOUR HUNDRED WHEEL HORSEPOWER! 'nough said right there. I agree its not a Pebble beach concourse car, just drive it and keep maintaining it and having fun.

Guess I am super Fortunate.. I was able to buy my original 05 STi back here a couple of months ago. ... and its in GREAT shape... keeping it forever..ReFurbishing it to as original condition as possible.. with a JDM Flare.. Got some more things to do to it but I originally put 33500 miles on it when I first bought it.. it has 131500 miles on it now.. OE motor, OE Paint, OE Body Panels... Very lucky its in the condition its in.. ..It still incorporates many of the Mods I did when I first owned it.
-JDM Fogs
-JDM Sidemarkers
Many other JDM goodies. I have already started accumulating many new parts to get it back into New condition, Including new drip rail moldings, New Belt moldings, New undertray, Intercooler Gasket, New Center Gauge Pod, New Gauges.. and lots of other goodies.

Brand New

3 months after I owned..STG 2 Tune

Swoosh Livery

Current about a month ago..

Current as of Last Friday Front spats installed.. its coming together.. Enjoy..

I hope the increase in value of the STI will help our community start restoring past STI's to their original goodness and steer the more recent generations away from the questionable mods and culture that we are now known for (Vape, stance, fart cans, hentai stickers etc...)

Restorations are not profitable to the person paying for the restoration. They are usually a love affair with an old car, which is fine it’s your money. Just don’t expect a great return. So do it for love not money.

Totally agree with you about crappy mods and culture, but that’s just an old man yelling about the idiot youngsters.

I'll give you the vape, stickers, and stance. But leave my fart can alone!
