Help! Head Unit won't turn on
Earlier this evening I was installing an Alpine KTU-445U power pack to the base head unit on my 2016 WRX using ae64.com's breakout harness. Before I put the head unit back into the car, I turned the key to on and made sure everything sounded good. It did. Relief!! But then I proceeded to put the rest of the dash back together, and of course when I did, the head unit wouldn't turn on. The interior lights and trunk light didn't turn on either. I've checked every fuse. I've disconnected the Alpine unit and taken it out of the equation and still nothing. I have disconnected the battery for a while. I am at a complete loss. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Did you check the fuse?

Check 3 wires for the following using a test light or multimeter
on alpine harness Yellow +12V constant power Red +12V Ignition/Accessory power Black -Ground these 3 wires make any deck turn on. on the factory harness (taken of 2014 STi factory wiring might be the same) Blue/Red +12V constant power Yellow/Red +12V Ignition/Accessory power Black/Blue -Ground If everything checks out, it HAS to be a fuse blown. Check dash fuses and also engine fuses. |

Thanks for the responses guys. But I'm an idiot.
In case anyone else runs into the same issue I had, apparently Fuse #8 in the engine bay, labeled Backup, is NOT a Spare, and in fact controls many different items such as the interior lighting, power to the head unit, and keyless entry. I pulled every single other fuse in the passenger area and the engine bay...but that one. Thanks to David, SVXdc at ae64.com who was awesome and helped me out. |

That's "good to know" information.
How do you like the Alpine BTW? |

^ OP - I'm going to put in a KTP-445u with ae64 10 and 6 pin harnesses and upgrade my speakers in the new year, so definitely interested in hearing how the Alpine power pack works out for you.

Can confirm it works with a 2018 base wrx, keyless remote didnt work, head unit didnt work, and interior lights did not work. This fixed it all. Switch the backup fuse #8 .

Hi all, sorry for bring out this old post back.
I have a 2017 STi with 6.2" HU. After I finish reading all the post above, I am planning to install my KTP-445U with the OEM 6.2" HU in the coming weekend. Before I start this installation, I would like to do all the wiring before I open up the radio trim. I got myself an aftermarket male and female wiring connector from local walmart that I could build my own breakout harness for installation. After reading the owner's manual on the KTP-455U, I find out the yellow power wire from the AMP is req. 15A for the power input. Since the HU from OEM only takes 10A, will it have enough power to run on the amp thought the breakout harness? Should I have to run the power directly from the battery? Or are there any location I could source power from the fuse box inside the cabin not from outside of the engine bay? Thanks for all the input. Ben |
