Question 2008 Subaru Impreza: Turn Signal/Parking Light socket needs changing.

So here's some background on the issue.

My Impreza's driver side turn signal is very dim and will sometimes hyperflash erratically. I've tried changing the bulb and cleaning up the contacts in the socket and neither fixes the issue.

My Subaru mechanic told me that this is a common issue with this model year and the socket most likely needs replacing, im no longer within range of my mechanic so I was wondering if I could do this myself.

Unfortunately the socket type is not like other Subaru's where it can be easily snapped on and off. I've posted an image. What might be the steps to fixing this, as a last resort do I need to head over to a dealership?

I believe there was a recall for this. Not entirely sure? But to my recollection I’m pretty sure I received a recall notice in the mail.

I have an 09 and haven’t experienced the issue, so didn’t bother to take it in.

Interesting, I know there was a recall for the brake light switch not working, but I can't find any record for this issue. I wish there were one though! I think might try to find the socket and some wire from a junkyard and go from there.

I had that issue for years. Found that wiggling the wires leading to the socket, and pushing them "into" the socked with a pair of pliars helped for quite a while. Never bothered to replace it.

Interesting! Thanks for the tip, Ill try that in the meantime. Funny thing is that when replacing the bulb with a new one the problem went away for about a week then returned.

Its so very dim that I worry about other drivers not seeing me signal.

EDIT: I installed a used OEM wiring harness for my lights, this solved my issue, interestingly the harness had a detachable socket for the turn signal rather than being hardwired, might this be due to a mid generation update?

I have to drop my bumper to replace a driver side front blinker.
