Changing a couple of variables. Update: Dyno chart now!
Built 2006 WRX wagon. Original build here:
https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho....php?t=2898052 Getting new heads with Kelford 199-b cams, inconel valves, bigger springs. Adding a Killer B Holy ELH ceramic-coated header, hoping to dyno by the end of the month. Hoping to gain a bit of oomph, but the main reason is that the heads were just shot after 200k miles, so I decided to upgrade a bit, as the headers were old as well. Will post results soon, hopefully. Thinking I might gain 10-20hp and a little better spool, but we'll see.

You might be right, although I was already running 199-b's on the exhaust side (got a deal on them years ago). Hoping the ELH will compensate for that, plus the ceramic coating will help keep temps down with my TMIC. I almost think the 199-b's might be a bit too much for running pump, but the E-85 adds so much better torque I'm hoping they will be a good match for a flex fuel setup. |

Just a quick update. The car is back together and back on a break-in tune. The car does run about 10 degrees F cooler when driving around town in stop-and-go traffic (in the 120s down from the 130s). I can't really tell much difference in the sound from the new ELH (still coupled to the Nvidia Q300 exhaust).
Was going to get it tuned yesterday but my tuner had to reschedule for this next Tuesday. |

A few notes:
I went from old heads with what I thought were 199-b cams, but they turned out to be Crawfords. They must be milder than the Kelfords as new springs had to be installed to keep up with the lift of the 199-b's. Turned out the old headers were cracked, so it was good to replace them. On pump, things really did shift to the right. Less torque, more hp up top. With the JDM 6-speed, not really an issue. It was pretty warm in the shop, so John had the Dom 1.5 set at wastegate pressure. The flex-fuel tune really shined with the new cams. So much more efficient on top, the boost was tapered down and it still made a good gain. Plus, it holds the gain up top far longer. Before, there was really no point to going much past 6500rpm. Now it pulls all the way to redline, increasing the power band noticeably to the butt dyno. The car was flex tuned on E-65, as the E-85 station I go to isn't much better than E-70. So perhaps this left a little on the table. Conclusions: bigger cams do make a difference, but it's not something I would have done just to gain more horsepower. But at 200k miles with replacement necessary, I figured what the heck? New dyno: Previous dyno: Hmmmm...Why don't my pictures show up? For some reason my pictures are not being saved with their .jpg extension. Last edited by Dave D.; 10-31-2020 at 09:18 PM. |

you know whats crazy is your boost is still tapering off at the top end, if you could get a bigger hot side I bet it would rev to 8000 with no problems
