i don't see why this is bad whatsoever. it's not violating anyone's rights, but rather, catching cheaters.
only idiots don't gear up when they ride. yes it's a personal choice, but i don't need to see carnage on the roadway when it could be prevented. |

I had out of state plates for a year before I could pass smog. The stickers on the plates were EXPIRED for 5 months of that time. I had paid registration in Cali, but couldn't get the stickers until I passed smog. Nobody bothered me. Cops didn't even notice because they don't know what color stickers a MD plate is supposed to have. I probably could have kept them forever. Car was daily driven.
Sorry, Cali. I paid every penny on registration, though, but you wouldn't have known from my plates. |

I just think it's retarded to have to pay for registration in another state, then pay AGAIN in California, even though it's still valid in another state. When it comes time for renewal, then pay good ol' CA DMV. FWIW, I had a buddy buy a car from AZ. It came with a 90 day temp AZ registration. At the end of the 90 days, he went to register it at the CA DMV. He told the DMV that he bought it 80 days ago. The DMV wanted him to pay a penalty. The DMV clerk told my buddy to write down last week's date on the transfer papers to avoid the penalty |

....is that his situation? If so, you're right and he's out of luck I guess. In fact, in some counties you can't even have it parked in your driveway with expired tags but there is less chance of being popped.

....and just to clarify, my beef earlier was with the "1984" tactics (not with the actual enforcement of the law). |
