Don't know about older vehicles, but it can be turned off in the settings.

I think the advancement of this technology is a good thing and was of course designed with the right ideas and for the right reasons, but of course leave it up to humanity to **** it up and abuse it. Undoubtedly, there will be some occasions where these things WILL save the lives of people who could have done nothing themselves to prevent it (i.e. if you're going through an intersection at a green light, and someone runs a red going perpendicular to you, and the forward auto collision detects it and slams the brakes quicker than you could react), but like I said before, I fear it'll also lead to more laziness and carelessness overall
Still disagree as I hear time and time again people are trying to drive better so these things don't beep at them constantly.

Up until this year I rarely saw someone using a phone on the highway. Now I see it everyday. I think code change would do more. Make the penalty the same as DUI and that code change would change the behavior than any Hal9000 they want to install. I marvel at phone addiction. These people are complete idiots. “I’m gonna use my phone anywhere I want and everyone can deal with it!”

So the OP, here is another report from the AAA:
https://thenewswheel.com/aaa-study-f...ssist-systems/

This is one of the ones I read. So more expensive repairs will equal higher insurance premiums. For every pro there is a con. Code will protect us all! how about driver requirements and laws. Would save a whole lot of people a whole lot of money.
Maybe for other car companies. Liberty Mutual for sure and I think State Farm, Subaru's premiums go down BECAUSE of EyeSight.

Is it linked to cruise control? I honestly don't know.

Just did an 8 hour total round trip in the Tesla. I will say that autopilot has finally gotten to the point that it is pretty good at staying in the lanes, even with crap lane lines and rain. i've even used it in medium level snow before. When that's off the lane departure warning is actually pretty good. If I remember correctly you can adjust the automatic emergency braking and lane departure stuff in terms of sensitivity. I think I have mine set to less sensitive. The Achilles heel right now is the sudden/hard braking that the car can do, although it's gotten a lot more infrequent with software updates.

My wife's 2019 Mustang has automatic emergency braking/warning, lane departure warning and radar cruise. They all work pretty well, but the emergency braking can be a bit sensitive in around town driving. I actually like the radar cruise better than autopilot in one sense, as it has less jerky acceleration and braking.

I think overall they are a positive thing for cars. I know I've had a close call or two where these systems have helped out. And as someone pointed out, repairs might be more expensive, but if you have less serious injuries you may have a net cost reduction in the aggregate.

Depending on the year. 2020, the Lane Keep Assist is in the settings and comes from the factory off. For the Lane Centering, its a button with all the other cruise buttons on the right side of the steering wheel and is only active during cruise.

The previous generation, it was only LKA and it's the same position as the LC button now. And it's a simple push to turn it on or off.
