It is. Been waiting for toyota to respond to the ranger, gm twins, and gladdy, but so far doesnt sound like much response. Hope this market gets some of that benefit of competition.

I wouldn’t consider the Bronco a “passing threat.” My coworker in Seattle (has Grand Cherokee for daily and Wrangler Rubicon for off roading) put down a deposit on 2 Broncos. Whatever the loaded 2 door is in manual and a 4 door auto version.

Yes, that’s just 1 person but you’d have to be foolish to not see the Bronco as vehicle that will convert at the minimum some of their customer base and potentially a significant amount.

Everyone puts the focus on the wrangler. But think about how many Cherokee, grand Cherokee, and whatever general Jeep vehicles they have that the Bronco can also go over.

Sure, wrangler owners are historically more brand loyal. The Cherokee / grand cherokee, compass, etc are damn ripe targets for cross over.
This already happened once......

The Bronco will last 10 years, max. Maybe 15 out of the nameplate with another Bronco 2 where they try to make it a CUV EV.

Isn't the Bronco Sport the CUV?

I'm no Ford historian, but the Bronco died at a time when Ford was realigning the SUV lineup. It basically became the Expedition and they opted to not do a 2dr version. The II became the Explorer. The Bronco had a continuous run since the 60's, but none of them really lasted. My uncle had a really nice white `91, that was always in the shop for something. But, what 20 year old Ford of the 90's wasn't?

This newer version will hopefully have a longer run than the Toyota FJ.

As far as the 15 year outlook? Anyone's guess, but if they are as or more dependable than the Wrangler, capable, and not subject to an EV-only nationwide rule, I can see them having a decent run.

I see the Sport as the more likely victim of the axe. But I hate CUVs and always root against them.

I bet the 2 door sport doesn’t last long. Most of the jeeps I see around me are all 4 door. 2 door just has little practicality for most buyers.

I wouldn’t mind a 4 door with a non removable top but had the massive pano sunroof like my raptor does.

They won't be making a 2 door Bronco Sport but we know what you meant.

On a practicality note, the 2 door Bronco has about twice the cargo volume of the 2 door Wrangler. I was considering a Wrangler 2 door a year ago but they have next to no cargo space with the rear seats up and not very much with the rear seats down.

Yeah, not only does the four door have two more doors, but you get a bigger cargo area because it isn't taken up by the back seat.

I live in Wrangler central out here in AZ, and I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I saw a JK/JL two door - they're rare. The four door is just a much better vehicle with little compromise over the two door, other than some worse angles and price.

Noticed this a few years ago.

Two door Jeeps just look weird now. Something off, after being iconic forever. Now the 4dr is the icon.

I think the 2 door looks off simply due to how large the overall vehicle has grown.

What's funny is the roots of the Jeep were in World War II. Eisenhower said it was one of the key vehicles that got us through the war, along with the Bulldozer. Now look at it.

So it looks like Ford ran the Broncos on the Rubicon trail. Apparently they made it but not without battle damage. Skid plates and bumpers were pretty beat. Not really an IFS strength in the rocks, especially with those bumpers so low. I suspect they’ll be revising at the minimum the bumpers.

they will not revise them, they will just offer you one of the many optional bumpers in their Ford Performance Catalog. Ford is going to be able to print money on these!

Gonna disagree. After watching the video of them testing on the Rubicon trail the 4door looks weird and the proportions of the 2dr look much better. Although the sill still looks too high or the roofline too short, one of the other. Definitely a much larger vehicle than the original, but then , what isn’t nowadays?

But take this for what it is worth. Last year I spent a week rock climbing in Moab with a rented JL Rubicon (lifted, 35" tires, etc) and my brother-in-law lives out there and knows everyone. A couple of the guys whom Ford hired as trail guides for the Bronco (again this was last year) said it was NOT ready to take on the Wrangler for rock climbing. Tons of issues popped up and lots of questions about long-term reliability. They would not go into detail but they said wait to buy one because some of the issues they observed were pretty big and Ford seemed to be scratching their heads.

Now Ford could have sorted this all out, but it is also Ford (and I say this owning a Ford right now). So if you are just going to mostly drive this on the street and the occasional trail I am sure it's fine. But if you plan on doing heavy offroading and rock climbing I would wait awhile for folks to take these out and see what breaks.

Like Pre said, it's a Ford wait a year or two for them to work out the kinks. But hey, kudos to Ford. Great job on the overall package and presentation. Let's hope it lives up the hype.
Gonna leave this here

Ford Sticks It To Jeep By Taking The New Bronco On The Rubicon Trail: No, You're Wrong! - YouTube
All of those guys driving the bronco's are ford engineers...I'm betting they don't have much experience crawling. With that said, I beat the **** out of my jk on the Rubicon trail (on 37's and high clearance bumpers no less). There is a picture where the JLU Rubi they have is missing a fender flares.....stuff gets beat up on the rocks

Bronco nation has a bunch of YouTube videos of the bronco's out in the wild. I've been impressed with what the base model has been doing

I jokingly asked the wife if I could have a Bronco and she surprisingly said yes. Its not like I don't want one but I don't really need one. I just want something with as much cargo space as my current 15' 4Runner but faster. The 4R is so slow. I doubt the Bronco will offer the same amount of cargo space.

This is fair. In fact, Ford would be smart to offer a higher clearance off road bumper/s as an option straight from the factory. I forgot Jeep does this with their steel bumper with the removable wings. For the majority of buyers the regular bumpers will be fine.

Toyota Tacoma sits in a dealer inventory for less than 20 days. that is the lowest inventory rate of any midsize truck.

Toyota doesn't need to respond to anyone, they are leading.
