New owner. 2018 WRX Base
New member here. Name John, from Fullerton, CA. Picked up a WRB 2018 Base WRX two weeks ago. Originally, I was planning on getting a Civic SI, as I bought my wife a Civic and enjoy the car so much. After Honda wouldn't make a deal, our broker turned me to a WRX. It wasn't on my radar, as I thought they stickered higher than originally thought. So, after a day of haggling, I picked it up two days later (deal was made, but I was working, so they held the car for me). I aim to use this as an online journal of sorts.
Plans for the car are to take her on autoX and track days. Yesterday, I signed up with NASA to become a member. Never been on a track before, but I am looking forward to learning about track safety, track days, and the abilities of both myself and my car. Be safe; hope to get to know all of you! Freshly detailed two days after delivery; simple paint correction, covered with PowerLock and Collinite Nothing fancy, just testing out my new pressure washer 1.1mm orifice and Gyeon Essence car soap Eibach ProKit installed; had to get a shot with the enemy, LOL (my brother in law's Evo X) Yesterday, I mounted my Enkei Raijin 18x9.5 +38 on 265/35/18 tires.

Jesus, your car looks good with those wheels!!! Boner city ....
Would look even better with some tint, the darker LED headlights, and maybe some light smoke tail light tint on the reverse light portion of the tail lights. |

Thanks! I’m actually planning on new headlights, just not sure what type: Read about the ‘15 LED headlights being a plug n play option, but I’m not too sure. Still reading up to make sure I have the correct info, OR: buy a second set of ‘18 Base lights and do a full retrofit. Tint is planned as well, but not too dark. |

Couple more changes. Added a Maxton Design V1 lip. I bought some canards but changed my mind. Apart from a rear diffuser, I don’t think I’ll be doing much more exterior wise.
Unless fogs, F1 brake light and a retrofit are considered exterior mods Overall, I like the look of the front lip and rear spoiler flap. I think it adds enough to distinguish it from an OEM car, without catching too much attention. |

My final part for this mod session arrived: Invidia R400 exhaust. Here’s a side by side with the R400 vs OEM Exhaust. |

yeah the OEM one is like a straw lol Suspension-wise, I currently have an Eibach ProKit. I’m planning on a rear sway bar, F and R strut tower bars, Whiteline bushings etc etc etc. I aim to take her on the track. No solid plans for coilovers; I may opt for the GTWork Bilsteins down the line. |

Finally broke 1K miles on her. Couple things I wish the car had:
automatic door locks when the car drove off. Not a big deal, but just never realized how many cars had this feature before this one. auto on/off headlights: again, no big deal. Just funny how my POS Kia Rio had this feature but I don't have it here. Apart from those two trivial items, i enjoy the car tremendously. Its a blast to drive, and its amazing how stable it feels even at 100mph. I had a 2005 G35 sedan, supercharged that was lowered with Eibachs and the Nismo suspension, yet this feels so different. Not sure how to describe it beyond the word Stable. In the last few days, I've picked up a Cobb AP V3 for $400, which I've send into Cobb to have the software updated for a V4, which will flash a MAPerformance Stage 1 tune. also ordered the Whiteline 22mm rear sway bar kit, along with Kartboy front and rear endlinks. Can't wait to throw those all on. All in all, i truly enjoy the car. Beyond that, I can't wait to start taking this car onto the track. |

Like the speed at which you mod your car!
Did you even look into the sti? Im thinking about a used wrx because i dont want to spend the extra cash(cash i dont have) for sti. Dont want to make a mistake if sti is that much better. Im sure its better but from an average guy is it worth it? I also just started autocrossing this year. |

No, I never looked at the STi. I had a fairly conservative budget for my car, and the STi was outside of it. To expound on it, an Si was my original choice. But after Honda wouldn't budge on the deal, my friend asked about the WRX. To my surprise, they were very similar in price, and Subaru gave me a great deal. I believe an STi is a great car, and worth the money if its within your budget. Ive never been a bells and whistles guy, and don't see the justification in paying more for an STi when I'd never use it the way its intended. |

Ah I see. I went with this cause I didn’t want it too loud. I had my time with a loud exhaust and it’s not something I want to replicate. Plus I found it on sale for about $200 less than other catback systems Plus, California. No need to draw more attention to myself here |

Car looks great. You seem to know the go-to mods right off the bat. You should get a custom alignment if you haven't already. More front camber, less rear camber.
Which canards did you buy then ditch? Just out of curiosity. |

Thank you. I just have oem top mounts so not sure how much wiggle room I’ll have with alignment. I’m researching aftermarket top mounts and the GTWorx bilsteins at the moment. I just got my sway bars, end links and bushings so those get installed and them off to an alignment. Ditched the NRG canards. Not much of a loss as they were only $30 |

I have stock top hats as well, with adjustable rear arms. I was able to get -1.5* all around which feels great for the street. |

Nice car. I miss when my car's paint looked that new and shiny. I'm in Irvine, if I ever see you around I'll give you a wave.
