Default 2007 Impreza 2.5L NA Automatic ATF & Filter Change

I’ve searched & found mixed answers on what is needed to do this service on my 2007 non-turbo hatchback. Do I need a T70 torx bit? I have everything else.

you may want to talk to subaru or a known reputable subaru mechanic before doing that.
the last AT i changed the fluid on... really had issues after the fluid change. granted that was back on an 87 4wd gl coupe... Still.. never did quite work right after that.
As for the plug size... after doing some searches.. it seems the t70 is for the diff and there is another bolt for the AT drain plug. could be wrong on that...

I plan on changing all the fluids in the car. I already ordered them. All Subaru Genuine fluids - Super Coolant, Coolant System Conditioner, ATF-HP, and 75W-90 gear oil. For the power steering I have AC Delco full syn Dex-VI. Also, ordered the spin-on Subaru trans filter.

Make sure you get all the old green coolant out so you don't shorten the life of the super coolant. They are compatible but it's best not to mix.

Leave the external transmission filter alone - that should only be replaced for a new or rebuilt transmission. You need a special wrench to properly torque that filter as well.
Unless the transmission has been contaminated a drain-n-fill or exchange (via the cooler hoses with machine) is all that is required for the ATF.

No use putting Dex6 in - please use ATF-HP in your power steering.

Thanks for tips and heads up guys! I'm approaching 160k mi with the original trans filter. This Subaru filter was like $30 too! Id really prefer to change it out. What's the proper way to torque down this filter? I do have torque wrenches and the oil filter cap wrenches as well, although I've never used a torque wrench on any spin-on filters, not even on the big diesel engines the size of your thighs lol!

Bet there is a torque specification - all diesels I have worked on had one,

Here is a catch - you will still have the old primary filter screen in the pan. Automatic transmissions are not like engines - there is no combustion residue or condensation from crankcase breather air to contaminate the fluid like you have in an engine. Unless the transmission gets dirt dumped in the dipstick tube the only thing beside transmission fluid is a little dust from normal friction material wear that adheres to the pan and case because it's too small for the filters.

Unless the fluid is burnt and the transmission has had a mechanical failure the only thing changing that external filter will accomplish is create a possible leak. I have had to fix quite a few transmission because of that - particularly when an oil filter is used instead of a transmission filter. gets expensive real quick.

Here is the base torque specification if you are using a cup wrench
14 N·m (1.4 kgf-m, 10.1 ft-lb) Don't kink the filter or leave the old O-ring on (it's not a gasket like an oil filter)
