I was wondering what if you're not using a WRX fuel pump? do you still need the controller? and if so will it work with other fuel pumps?
Thanks, Micah

You DO want to use the WRX fuel pump controller, and you'll need the harness attached to it as well. You should change the pump to a WRX one also, I think it works on a different high/low voltage switch deal than RS pumps....

The car WILL run without the controller, but it will not run perfectly. With the controller it is much, much smoother, doesn't throw a CEL, and will pass emissions. Without the controller you will have a very hard time getting past any sort of emissions test... it makes a huge difference and is MUCH more important than most people will tell you. A lot of shops don't even know about it because it's all the way in the back of the car there... but it is completely worth $120, and you should definitely get it. You don't even have to wire it to the back like that... mine is next to the ECU up under the passenger side dash.

If you want the best answers with technical backing, just e-mail one of the guys at I-Speed. Check out the website at www.i-speedusa.com for e-mail addy's. They'll tell you exactly why they always use the fuel pump controller in your conversions and will be able to answer tougher questions like the SAFC one as well....

I'd venture to guess that in the nearly 2 years since this thread was active anyone looking for the part number was able to find it.

Ah, just giving you a hard time. Part numbers like that should be added to the faq.

was that brand new? WHERE?! haha. I've been looking for a hood, they are always 200+ I almost thought about going CF because it isn't that much more. Also, is that with hood scoop and those little inserts upfront? (alot don't come with those).
Thanks

While we’re on the topic. You might as well swap right over to a Walbro pump kit instead of the stock WRX pump depending model/type of tank installing it in. When I did my swap (98’ 2.5LGT) my existing pump wiring was different then the stock WRX pump. Specifically I was missing the WRX style connector pigtail as my existing was a ring-terminal type of connection. That said, I needed this pigtail in addition to a WRX pump.

Instead I just went out and bought a 255 Walbro kit which included the pump, nice new filter, mounting cushion, and most importantly the wiring pigtail I was missing. I got my kit from this dude on EBAY for $100 bucks:

Coincidently I now have an OEM WRX pump forsale for $30 bucks if anybody’s interested…

OEM WRX fuel pump controller of course…

I was simply stating that it’s easier to jump strait to a Walbro pump kit then to *try to get the stock WRX pump itself to work. With the kit, you pop the pump assembly out of the tank one time with no hidden surprises, and you’ll be set for future upgrades.

Just a note however: I ran my swap project on my old stock 2.5 pump running off the WRX fuel pump controller and surprisingly it ran. Of course I never actually got out of the garage or above 4k RPM. This was only temporary until my Walbro arrived but it will run…

Sorry but this one's an '03, the thread that is. Think the OP has moved on to several other projects in the 8 years since he asked about the controller.
