Thanks all for the wealth of information
Just dropped off my '06 Baja Turbo with a blown engine along with a 95km EJ20X motor with my mechanic to install. I will be asking questions for certain, as prior to the original engine going kaboom I had been planning on making some changes and doing a minor amount of tuning to it.

Finished this swap on my 05lgt. Used the long block, swapped everything over. Runs like a charm.

No sir. Just as she came. Swapped manifold/vacuum lines/pcv/tgv with injectors from ej25. Swapped exhaust/turbo from ej25.
Basically used the short block. Oh yeah, swapped the drivers side air pump fitting block off from ej257 head. |

Motorbykemike, no sir. Just running it off the stock 2.5 ecu. Pulled all the plugs, great color. No break up in the engine, it just runs great.
It was a low budget winter beater project for my wife to take to drill from New Hampshire to New Jersey. She's required to bring all her army stuff and her mini Cooper countryman was getting tight. Do you absolutely recommend a tune?? I'm under 2k in this build, don't really want to invest another 1k into a app and tune. |

I have experience with 4 of these now
yes they will "run fine" on the oem usdm ecu most of the time but they need to be tuned timing / fueling and avcs tables for the 2.5 are all wrong for the 20x/y if you don't want to spend the money on a cobb ap , just get it opensource tuned |

Tuner here.
These things require a retune to touch it up a little. The 2.5 US tune is not really ideal for these JDM motors at all. Between the smaller displacement and high compression ratio, the OEM tune is a problem waiting to happen. It may "feel" like its running fine , but feel is only the tip of the iceberg compared to whats happening under the surface there. Based of the reputation that subaru motors will blow up by just changing the paint on your rear passenger door, never ever assume because it feels fine that it is running fine. Any changes or deviations from stock or what you are tuned for absolutely, positively requires a retune, or at the very least, datalogs to a knowledgeable pro who can look things over and make that determination. -Mikey |

Hey Mikey!
I just installed my id1050x’s with a custom parallel/equal length fuel system and want to run an E30 map. How sensitive is the parameters for Subaru with correcting the a/f if I’m not flex fueling it? My bmw is smart enough to adjust if I’m a little bit off. I just make sure the gas/ethanol mix always fairs on the gas side. Now, that’s not saying I don’t calculate the mix to be as accurate as possible. But it’s never going to be perfect without a flex fuel system to adjust for it. With that being said, I always run the mix fat on the gas side so it doesn’t melt my pistons. Too much E and things die. Too much gas and it just runs like ****. So, what’s your take on this for an ej20y swapped Baja on a fxt Ecu. This should be interesting. LOL! You can run every calculation you want on paper, but execution in the real world is a different animal. As far as running on the "fatter" side of things, what AF ratio under heavy loads were you considering to be "fat" ? -Mikey |

Did anyone who did this swap have issues with no power/torque at low rpms, like 1000-2000 or less. Went down an grassy knoll and couldn’t get back up. Granted, it was steep, like 20-25% grade. Kept stalling and foot to the floor, no power what so ever. I have my tuner upping the timing but he thinks there’s something wrong with the engine.
If you get it above 2000rpms and the turbo spools up, it rips at the way to 7k. I was wonder if I somehow messed up the timing and it a tooth off. Thoughts. Go! |

I did the ej20.... Whichever is the automatic motor in my 05 lgt wagon and except for the fact that I'm not hitting target boost (computer goes into a safe mode and only lets turbo hit wastegate boost 7psi max) and I've tried everything to get it to run properly and it won't. This is my first turbo Subaru so I don't know what these are supposed to run like normally with target boost but I know it's painfully slow when dialed down.
Could this be my problem? I have torque pro but that only give me so much info but the car still runs pretty good. I kinda loosing my mind trying to figure out why it's doing this cause I just want it to run like it's supposed to. Any help would be seriously appreciated. All usmd manifolds and sensors swapped over Up pipe gutted Blue jdm injectors swapped K&n oem air filter |

I swapped both cams go the b25 savcs parts , they have more lift than the ej20x/y cams
I used a usdm harness I used the usdm yellow sidefeed injectors as the jdm blues are smaller I used a single scroll elh and a bnr16g , Perrin tmic , and turbo back exhaust Yes it is tuned |
