I just searched "2015 WRX Heater Assembly". I did call a dealer for the correct part, best they would do was $500. I think it'd be labor intensive if it really does need to come out, but not all that expensive. I am going to probably pop off the center panel and see after I take the assembly apart this weekend.

So I confirmed that the flaps for driver/passenger are coupled and there is good news and bad news:

Good: The modification to the heat and cooling assembly flap is very minor and easy. All you do is cut off the keyed end off the passenger side flap while leaving enough to slide inside the drivers side flap.

Bad: You will have to drain coolant and discharge freon to install. This by itself isn't too bad, I have gauges and access to a vacuum pump so I can charge it back myself. The real bad news is that the entire dash will be coming apart to install.

Even so, I am somewhat determined to do this, I am only around $300 bucks in, and theoretically you can do it cheaper if you don't get a JY heat/cooling assembly like me to play with in advance. Unless someone is willing to come help, I am probably going to wait until its cooler and install this.

You're sure the whole thing has to be taken out to get to the flaps?

There is no way that there will be clearance to disassemble the heat/cool assembly without removing it from the vehicle. I had the JY one on my table and completely disassembled it to split the halves. The flaps link together to form a shaft and are captivated from moving apart by the sides of the assembly. I took some pictures, but probably not enough. There are like 10ish screws holding the halves together, some buried deep that I had a hard time finding even with it on the table.

Good news is that I have the FSM, so I have the procedure to remove the dash and all. Also, like I said earlier, the control of the motors is based in the dials, so this should be the last thing.

Yeah. I just. At the point where the heater core has to come out, it's not worth it anymore for me. The gf can wear a sweatshirt.

I'm kind of biding my time to see if the next gen STI has an FA engine anyways.... I *might* trade mine in on one if so.

Do you just have the PDF copy of the 15 MY? I have been trying to find a PDF copy for 17 MY. I would pay for it.

I have a 2017 WRX Limited and I can confirm my heater core looks like what 15SubieSC is describing with the blank spot for the actuator and the brown/tan nub coming out for the driver side controls. I also found a 6-pin connector on a harness near where the driver side actuator would go (there isn't one currently), is this the one you used 15SubieSC? I have a STi dual climate controls not currently installed and i'm in for modifying the flaps if it is confirmed to be working.

I've plugged the motor in to verify its operation.

I also ordered the flaps and the one you need is 72162YC040. The 72162YC050 has a keyed side (you can actually see it earlier in the thread, it is the right side of the green flap). You can also just cut the keyed end off (thats essentially what subaru did). What you need to do though is take the heat/cooling assembly out from behind the dash and disassemble it. Im still planning on doing it, but its currently 90+ everyday and I am going to wait for it to cool down.

Also to note, I think it may be possible to get this out without discharging/recovering AC but have not confirmed, but you will have to drain coolant as the heater core has to come out of the assembly.

15SubieSC hasn't been here for 2 years. Answer not forthcoming but I doubt it ever got done. I have yet to see one of these threads end with a successful conclusion.

What was the end result of this thread then? Limited models have everything already and just need the dual switch controls while premium models need a bunch of other parts?

didn't work on my 2015 WRX Limited. Dual HVAC controls worked fine with everything else but any sort of dual climate zone function did not. The zone temp showed up on the screen but the actual temp didn't change. I eventually put the oem back on. I can sell it to anyone if they want to try it.

The heater core for dual zone has flaps that actuate for the different temperatures. This won’t be found with any models that don’t have dual zone. The heater core is different

Can confirm. Heater cores are different, so you'll need to swap them to get down climate to work (remove the entire dash).

Default 2015 WRX - Swapping Dual Climate Control

Right. I was really looking into this. Not only do you need to remove the dash but you need to drain coolant and remove Freon in system

Edit: this is why I was so interested in 15SubieSC research. He may have found a way to just replace parts and not have to go through all the hassle
