Just curious how much it cost you to fix the valve seal?

My coworker has a 2015 WRX with 67k and is experiencing symptoms of oil consumption (1qt/2k miles) and oil leaking from the exhaust.

His shop quoted him $3k recommending the valve stem seals be replaced along with a front cover (timing chain cover?) oil leak fix.

As a 40+ year auto tech I would tell him to get a second opinion. valve stem seals are usually the LAST thing that leaks on an FA engine at that mileage. More likely it is rings or turbo. Although those front covers do leak, it would have to be really pouring to get to 1 QT/2k miles.

over the years, i've seen so many engines burning oil being blamed on valve stems because they don't want to know the real truth lol
