Me scrolling Netflix for something to watch: Hmmm, that looks interesting. Maybe if I don't find something in another 30sec.

(Goes back to look for it 30sec later)

Netflix: No, you didn't watch it the first time you scrolled by. You'll never see it in the recommendations again even though it was there 30sec ago. Good luck finding it ever again.

Really enjoyed yesterday

Being a huge beetles fan helped, and quirky premise was fun.

I picked that one up on 4k Blu-ray back when it came out, just because I loved the idea of the premise, and because I'm a fan of both Danny Boyle and the Beatles. I wasn't disappointed. I've watched it at least once annually since.

!!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!!

The best part of the movie for me was imagining living in a world where the Beatles never existed. The movie was very enjoyable. I haven't looked to see if the Ellie Appleton role was written in such a way to subtly "yoko" Jack or the writers thought this was a generally accurate portrayal of modern relationships where women generally always yoko their lovers.

Im not really hip on these things i honestly saw the preview and thought it was a small independent film. Was wondering how they got rights to use beatles songs. Was like omgwtf when ed sheeran and kate mckinon apeared.

I never looked at why but just seems like the BBC and British Movie never lack for what ever music they want to use. BBCA Top Gear really drove this home. Maybe the TV tax pays for it or.. ehh NM. A British museums + theft joke here would be too low effort like their defense of stealing cultural treasures.

If you like campy over the top action movies and/or shows Furies is your jam. It's like someone took all of the parts of John Wick where you couldn't suspend your disbelief making an entire show out of it after turning the volume up to 12.

Probably what's coming. Show summary, "don't blabber into the void or something might come out of it and get you".

So far (3 episodes in), seems like a bit of a ripoff of enders game to me ( i suspect bugs are coming to earth). I have not read the Cixin Liu books.

Community is going off their catalog end of this month, decided to finish my marathon re-watch after stalling at the start of S5.

Despite not being the peak of funny that were S2&3 a good time was still had watching the rest of the series, able to binge thru the last 20 eps of the series within a week with little effort. Still a damn funny show.

Fingers crossed the movie will be reality

Yeah, it was pretty nasty in the book as well. Just finished the Netflix S1. Honestly they did a pretty good job streamlining the whole book 1 story into a digestible length and get into start of book 2 where the story gets way more interesting IMHO and making the characters and setting way less China-centric to make it far more accessible to an international audience.

Also they did a lot of interesting reassigning of book characters into these new original characters for the Netflix adaptation, some are direct 1:1 analogs of the original Chinese characters and some wear a few different character hats.

Like the recent Last Airbender show on Netflix, I wish they had 2 or 3 more episodes - why the fixation of 8 episodes max? The Chinese series is 30 episodes lohng, which feels like at least 15 episodes too long. I watched the first couple of episodes and it did feel very slow. I'm tempted to continue to compare, but 30hrs in a language I'm not familiar with is a lot of investment time!

Back on topic, overall I enjoyed the Netflix version. I generously give them a lot of leeway for adapting the story and it was OK. I did feel it was a bit too localized with the Oxford 5/England, and wish it was became international a lot sooner. It's not great, but it's a bit more than OK. Again, just 2 more episodes to flesh things out would've been so good. I hated the jump between we gotta build this staircase which is totally brand new, and 30mins later, the bombs have already been launched and in place. And I thought at first it was supposed to be 1,000 bombs?, but they only put up 300?

The books, IMHO, were not _that_ great. The big interest to me was that it was written by a Chinese citizen and we don't get a lot of Chinese sci fi, so it's interesting to get their perspective so to speak.

Randomness:

I've never watched anything Airbender, would I be able to watch and enjoy the newest one?

I still cannot get into Rebel Moon...

Parks and Rec > Community

While I love 'Somebody Feed Phil' for the food and locations, he can be kind of a dick...

That's because Rebel Moon is complete dogshit. Parks and Rec was great, until the final season. I can't tell which is worse, the final season or Rebel Moon.

The Last Airbender anime (available on Netflix) is awesome. The sequel with the next avatar is slightly more grown up as the characters are older, but still pretty good. I enjoyed both. The first series is a compact three season arc. Korra, the sequel has 4-5 seasons. Henry Rollins voices one of the best villains in her series.

You have to enjoy the character drama or the show is too boring to watch.

I'm starting to think the san-ti are like the Thermians from galaxy quest. But they were deceptive toward humans from the start and don't seem to have ever had internal conflict or war. Can probably just throw rocks at them and be done with the whole invasion.
