After going back and reading:
Everyone involved is about to get ****ed.
My thoughts are the owners insurance will not cover anything and will cite racing (despite people calling it "solo" it's a timed competitive event). The drivers insurance will do the same. The Celica ditto. That leaves the three of them being forced to pay out of pocket. Both of the by standers will get covered by there own insurance and deal with higher premiums, or pay out of pocket. And with 5 people involved, there is no way lawsuits are going to stay out of it.

That's my thoughts atleast.

I'm sure it will play out like the Evo-Porsche-G35 incident last year.

But yeah, Safety Steward has a lot of explaining to do.

Curious to the layout of the course and if the perscribed distances were set between paddock/fixed objects.

You have any links about that one, I've seen references but never heard anything concrete.

Wow, that is frickin' brutal!

I'm sure there had to have been some board members there. Can someone draw us a rough map to show how this happened? I looked at the VWVortex thread but I don't really understand the layout.

I can answer some questions, but not officially. Long and short... it was not preventable by the organizers using any reasonable means. To prevent this accident (or a similar one) we would simply not hold events.

I'd appreciate a lock on this... nothing to see here.

THAT'S MY 03 WRX WAGON IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MESS. The guy driving the GT3 missed the brake at the run out of the course and hit the celica and my car. My car was pushed into the Audi. I wasn't registered to run and was just there spectating. My insurance will cover my car and then go after the guy driving the Porsche probably, which wasn't even his car. His friend let him run a lap in it...that's a $200,000 bill there with all the cars involved. I'll be on the phone with insurance companies ASAP tomorrow morning. I have LOTS of pics I'll try to post. What a friggin' headache, I wasn't even going to go to the track today, but the sun was shining and I was in that part of town and just thought I'd watch for a bit. Last time I park anywhere close to the course. Now I'm in search of a blue bugeye wagon, or I'll have lots of parts to sell here and find an 04 or 05.

1. Did you sign the SCCA waiver?
2. Post the pics of the layout (quickly, before the SCCA kinfolk get here)

Too late. I'm here.

I'd suggest that we keep it to constructive discussion, but I see that isn't going to be possible. Lots of gory photos posted online don't do anyone any good.

For SCCA club members that do course design / safety stuff that want to know more, PM me.

I would like to see the "runoff" area to see what "can be done better".

Looks to me that this picture, it appears to show at timing box (above the barrel) coming down to where the MS6 is parked.

That appears to be mear feet away from the paddock area, and if you were hitting the pointer cone (above left of the timing box), you could get out of control/hotdogging if you are a total n00b/showoff coming into the slowdown area.

It's looks like the Porsche is on Rcomps, so it was probably hotdogging.

In any event, the paddock is way to close to the end of that run (assuming my visual dissemination of this picture is correct, those who were there, feel free to MSpaint)

I'm here for the gangbang.

That REALLY sucks. Hopefully your suby gets taken care of without too much hassle. I'd hate to be that Porsche guy...he's F-ed. Hopefully his pink shirted friend is loaded.

The depth of field of that picture from behind the Celica is extremely poor. There was significant distance between the stop lights, finish chute, and the parking area. There was also a relatively slow turn right before the lights so speeds at the end of the course were not particularly high.

The driver apparently missed the brake pedal and coasted the 100+feet into the parking area, workers behind the car saw no brake lights prior to the impact. I personally only saw the moment before impact.

For those who were not there, please save the errant speculation.

Coasted and low speed don't really describe what I'm seeing, but you're right, I'm not here to speculate

Like I said... if you have a productive reason to want the details, PM me. I'll share what I can.

I'd like to think that a constructive discussion could be had, but the majority of people that will wander in here (due, largely, to the thread title) have no interest in anything other than looking at pictures of smashed up cars. So why have the thread?

The part I find hard to swallow is that the driver hit the clutch instead of the brake.

The driver of the Porsche isn't sure what happened other than he didn't hit the brakes. The run out from the timing light to the pit area was quite long, I'm guessing well over 250 ft and probably longer. It does look closer in the posted pic but it wasn't. I wouldn't have had my car parked there if I thought it was in any sort of danger. Fortunately, nobody was hit because they probably wouldn't have survived. We can all get our cars fixed, it will be quite a bitch with all the mods I had and how cherry my car was but it's all material items and I can deal with it. The driver was beside himself, as you could imagine. It's a good lesson of what can happen, freak accidents take place you can't let your guard down in motorsports. No one was hurt or killed and that's the most important issue.
