Default Is 3pis peak normal in 1st gear for intake only protune?

UPDATE ** My lackluster acceleration in 1st gear was entirely tune related. The tuner was too busy to respond to my feedback for awhile but has since sent a revised map and explained that the previous version was detuned to prioritize DAM stability issues I had before protuning. Happy to repot DAM has been stable on the revised map. The specific reasons I wasn't generating boost in first gear seems to be a combination of throttle position limits and boost control focus on higher load in 3rd/4th gear**

Looking for help with lackluster acceleration in 1st gear after protune with my 15 WRX that is completely stock, except Big SF intake. For context, my 0-60 is 7.9 seconds...barely keeping up with nissan sentra at a light.

My questions are: Is only 3psi peak normal in 1st gear, all else being stock? Is there a fix in the map or <$500 mod? If not, I guess I'll just go back to stage 1 with stock intake and sacrifice the protune and intake costs...

I understand there's not enough load for full boost in 1st gear and read some threads about not making full boost in 1st BUT even they were making 5 and 8 psi which would probably be enough...how do I get there?

The background: Cobb's maps were causing a lot of knock and DAM drops. So walnut blasting followed by induction cleaning (first time in 75k miles shame on me) at a very reputable Subaru shop. OTS maps still knocking, so now I'm pro tuned by the same shop. Good news, DAM and knock are under control and the car is fantastic 2nd gear and up. Bad news is 1st gear is much slower than stock and COBB OTS maps.

1st gear is so short and has so much torque I couldn't imagine ever getting close to full boost in 1st.
The tach wings to redline so fast it's ridiculous.

If you spent more time in 1st you'd just be going slower anyway.

You're getting full boost otherwise right?

I get 14-15 lbs in 1st gear on my phatbotti tune.

I’d get a different tuner.

Definitely not normal to be that slow 0-60. never really noticed how much boost i made in 1st since its so wicked short that im thrown back into my seat fighting to throw 2nd.

Is 3 psi possible? I'm sure the stock wastegate actuator is higher than 3psi lol
Sounds like you have a leak. How much boost are you seeing in 3rd gear?

if you don't have a leak...maybe check the compressor wheel or something...

Here's my 0 - 60mph log on datazap graph:

https://datazap.me/u/rhiiine/0-60-pu...0.00&tmax=2.01

@DustySombrero thanks for confirming this is not normal, I guess I'm tuner shopping.

@rtv900 1st gear now takes forever to rev out, short shifting into 2nd isn't really faster because there's not much boost there before 3,000 rpm.

@tegxsi yea I'm getting full boost except for 1st gear. Tuner has made 2 revisions for me but neither helped much, went from 2 psi to 3 psi. COBB rep said he deferred to the tuner's experience and gave no suggestions.

If first takes forever to rev out then you for sure got a real problem.
I can barely hang on if I floor first and the tach whips so fast you can barely follow it

Looking at your log file on Datazap.me it looks like your tuner is targeting more than 3psi, I'm guessing some where between 14-15psi. Your Boost error is really high which suggests a boost leak and a big one. If you want more data add Boost final to the logger and that will give you a laymen's view of how far off target boost you actually are and again this suggests a massive boost leak.

Be careful about posting logs on DataZap.me it will reveal more about your tune than you may want most to know about. i.e. last column in the log real all the tuner notes about the MAP.

even your "over boosting logs" https://datazap.me/u/rhiiine/3rd-gea...0&data=5-23-25 show that you are under boosting by 1.5 -2.5psi after about 4600RPM. That spike you see from 4400 - 4600 RPM is prolly your etuner trying to compensate for the massive boost leak.

Fix the boost leak by troubleshoot it with a pressure test and smoke.
