(Props to Prime Motoring on that sweet build!)
I'm surprised more people aren't asking about FA24 swap into VA. I've been thinking about an IAG built block for my 2018, but I'd go OEM FA24 all day long if it fit with minimal customization. Could the 2.0l heads fit the FA24? Maybe with some shop work? A new FA24 shortblock can be had for less than 2k from Subaru..(now I'm just dreaming)

The short block assembly is around $1700 at my local dealership.
https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_20...0103AC95A.html If this FA20 cylinder heads bolt on, I'm guessing that they would at least need the combustion chambers opened up to compensate for the FA24's larger bore (86 vs 94 mm). Then there's the question of the block dimensions to know if the intake manifold, intercooler, etc. will still fit in the same location. I'm guessing the intake manifold may not be interchangeable since Prime Motoring retained the FA24 intake manifold rather than using IBR's BRZ manifold kit. I believe Ron also purchased a FA24 to swap into his WRX a while ago, but I haven't heard anymore about that. Last edited by WRXnick16; 10-30-2019 at 10:17 PM. |

No one has swapped one of these in a WRX yet? Beefier rods sound nice along with OEM reliability.

Apparently there is alot of work that goes into it. IBR was supposed to come out with a list on how to do it. Also if you want beefy rods with oem reliability take a look at TurninConcepts stage 1 block.

This is pretty awesome and something I've been watching for for a while. Even more so now that my STI sounds like it developed a cracked ring land on cyl. 2.
I saw another thread somewhere claiming that the CANBUS system would make swapping the FA24 into WRXs or other cars very difficult. That doesn't seem to be the case here considering the engine works with the FA20 ECU. |

What about just the shortblock or the longblock? If the heads share a bolt pattern it would be easy enough to just do some polishing/port work and add a thicker head gasket. I did some quick math and it looks like a 1mm gasket with about 1.5cc worth of porting from the cylinder heads would net around 11:1 which is perfectly manageable for 93 and/or e85 and 18~20psi. So I guess the next question becomes do you make the 2.0 heads fit the 2.4 short block? Or do you make the 2.4 long block fit the exhaust/intake/accessories?

"Crosstrek back up and running thanks to @ibuildracecars allowing me to adapt the BRZ manifold to the FA24 and making a fuel rail solution that will allow us to offer the FA24 swap to our customers. Issue we had prior was the DI system creating too much pressure and bending the brackets made which would lift the injectors out of the seat. These new rails are brick **** houses, there is ZERO movement now and perfectly safe for operation." -Prime Motoring

Update:
"A glimpse into the future" demonstrating the potential of the next gen, FA powered STI. 537 whp & 490 lb-ft @ 22 psi on E56 before running out of fuel. Modifications:
They continued pushing to 560+ whp but ran out fuel and leaned out to ~15:1 AFR (melting a piston). Should be capable of 600+ whp with auxiliary port injection (aka dual injection). I will update the original post. |

The FA24 dominates in area under the curve! The future of the STI looks promising if it's powered by an STI-tuned version of the FA24DIT! Turbo specs for both setups: FP XR Blue 73HTZ ball bearing turbocharger. Flow rating: 57 lb/min. Compressor wheel: 52.6mm inducer/73mm exducer. Turbine wheel: 60.8mm inducer/54mm exducer. CHRA: Xona Rotor ball bearing. Disclaimer: The EJ257 uses single scroll housing as FP does not make a twin scroll housing for the EJ. Twin scroll setups (header, uppipe, downpipe, turbo, etc) are rare to come by for the EJ257 since they're costly and typically JDM as we didn't receive a twin scroll EJ in the US. Whereas, the FA24DIT uses twin scroll housing as it comes with a twin scroll setup from the factory. Every other aspect of the turbo is the same. This is probably as close to a fair comparison as we'll ever see between the EJ257 & FA24DIT in terms of setup, dyno, tuner, etc. And yes, I own a '19 STI equipped with the EJ257, but I can't resist: |

Prime Motoring has the FA24DIT back up & running with a GTX3852R Killer B Fury turbo kit. Stock long block with ARP head studs.. seeing how well it holds with 700 whp
