Fuel: pump 91
Oil: full synthetic 5w30
Circumstances: accelerating 50% throttle onto Autobahn A3, was feeling a loss in power. Noticed my AP said my FKL was -9.5, heard the engine just cough and complete loss of power.
Actual engine failure: threw a rod and broke the short block
What gear/rpm did you apply ~50% accel?

Too low of rpm in too high a gear can make a rod snap.

Just picked up a 2017 wrx limited with 56k miles, egr and tgv deletes, grimmspeed j-pipe, ebcs, tmic and charge pipe, nameless muffler deletes, already tuned by mike botti and running great!

Yea, meant charge pipe, was up for almost 2 days when i wrote that, lol. surprised that's all I messed up. Will be getting it re-tuned, feels like it falls over in the last 2.5k rpm and boost drops to like 12psi

Just under 40K. I do not believe this was a tune related issue.

Oh yeah for sure. Mine is still a baby with about 13k miles and 6k on my tune, so I like to hear how long people are getting out of the modded higher mileage motors. Good luck with the rebuild, what upgrades if any are you doing to the bottom end?

IAG Stage 2 Block, and I guess the Killer B Oil Pick-up would count as bottom end, so that too lol.

So around 95% of Stock WRX's survey'd haven't had blown engines? 286/299. Is that pretty good compared to other cars out there? Maybe some of those stock ones were abused as well.

I wish I was able to have the MAP OTA. BUT APPARENTLY 2021 pcms have different rooms and the EPA require syou me dumb BS for tuners to abide by. So MAP can't sell tunes for 2021 and newer wrx's and STIs. Which sucks because I've been buying parts from MAP long before I bought my first Subaru. That being said they recommended Ambott E tune and spoke very highly of him. So once i get my MAP intake installed I'm gonna hit ambott up for a etune. I'll report back definitely.

Miles: 85,000, 17,000 and 14 months on tune/mods

Other than my issues when first doing the intake (the faulty MAF extension harness in humid weather, see my 'journey to stage 2' thread), I've had zero issues. Tuned for reliability/daily driving, and surviving FL summer heat. It's plenty fast, waaaay better than stock.

Currently in the shop for a clutch and flywheel, and having a TMIC done at the same time (along with mounts and other boring stuff). I'll get another tune once I get it back, and update then.

UPDATE sorry forgot to do this back in March! Added Process West Khanacooler, ACT Streetlite flywheel, and South Bend Stage 3 Daily clutch (along with a few other bits and bobs - Front swaybar, engine/trans/pitch stop mounts, pitch stop brace, Verus forged clutch fork, TOB snout/sleeve, etc). Re-tuned by Mike at M-Tuned. As with others who have done a TMIC and tune, the car makes more power modestly but most importantly, it makes 'winter' power in the Florida summer. It's been amazing. So much fun to drive.

total 92k miles, 24k and a year and a half on mods, zero issues.

ffs, I did some of the same **** that a lot of people do on here with the exception that I knew what I was doing and never pushed for peak power.

There becomes a point where you gain 5hp for a 200% increase in chance of failure.
HAHA, agreed!

2015 wrx 75,000 mile update. Ron Watson tuned since 20k: egr delete, tgv delete, ebcs, cat back exhaust, flex fuel.

Car has been rock solid and absolutely rips when I have ethanol in the tank. Makes 340/340 to the wheels on e60. I just completed a 3k mile road trip that included 115+ degree temps, plenty of hard mountain driving at elevation in Colorado, and multiple high speed runs in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. Every rip to redline made me smile.

I’ve done Blackstone oil analysis since new and those have shown a very healthy engine. Will do another one around 80k and post in the oil analysis thread.

I’ve had the car since new and want something different after 8 years, but it’s just too good and I know I’ll regret selling it. 2 cars isn’t feasible quite yet until I complete a planned move, so the wrx just keeps getting driven.

I love my car, but it will be my last Subaru. I don’t like the direction the brand has gone styling wise and the fit and finish on my car at 75k leaves a lot to be desired.

Current plan is to keep the wrx as the daily for another 1-2 years and then add an suv, moving the wrx to fun weekend car.

A friend recently bought a low mileage 20 wrx and the only advice I give him that I really feel made a difference was changing the oil religiously every 3k miles. I did my first oil change at 1.5k miles and have done them like clockwork since then every 3k miles with PUP 5w30.
