300% harder as you do not own a torque wrench big enough. You got lucky with the 5 speed. A broken clock is right twice a day, do not think you will be right with a 6 speed.

I have rebuilt a few of the 6 speed, there is nothing special about them.
All the special tools to completely disassemble it can be made with a grinder and a welder out of ~$250 worth of socket, wrench, scrap piece of steel. For the torque wrench, just get a 3/4 digital torque adapter and a 3' 3/4 breaker bar. I can take pictures of my "special tools" if you are interested |

The split case that's in N/A and WRX or the end loader in STI? If you don't need to break down the shafts then easy. But I have never opened up a gearbox that didn't need at least one baulk ring, maybe a shift hub, or most common - in split case - 3/4 gear cluster assembly. Dealer I worked didn't have all the special tools so I have a few big sockets and crowfoot wrenches. Trick is getting that driven shaft in the end loader torqued to 390 ft.lbs. and then getting the case back on without knocking the shift rails out of place. |

cool. the main reason i would be interested in opening a sti six speed (going to be buying an STi swap soon) is to install the steel shift forks and maybe work on the DCCD clutches, so I might get away with not breaking down the shafts. |
