Default Auto Junkyards? Salvage vehicles?

Can anyone help me out here?

I am looking for a car that was in a accident, 04+ Wrx that has damage. But can be fixed. (Project)

I tried googling and only found parts, I want the whole car... They go somewhere after the insurance company rights you the check, But I cant seem to find out where.

Thanks,
Bogus

not usually, if they sit anywhere it's at a body shop, most of the time they go directly from the body shop to the recycler/salvage yard

edit: at least that's how it's worked with the places i've dealt with

look for an 04 headlight or something... call up the junkyard and ask them if/how you can purchase the whole car?

There is a junk yard in Lockport that specalizes in imports. If anywhere had one around here it would probally be them. Try looking up salvage yards in the yellow pages.

Talk to Greg Drozd... he's another of you Polish guys, but he's been into it for years. I believe he sometimes works out of the room/shop next to Dylan's.

Default auctions

I think the place they go after the accident, before being parted out, is the auction

For instance, my donor car for my swap was wrecked in indiana(rear end collison) and was then put up for auction, Bionic autoparts in chicago ( cicero and north ave) bought the car hoping to turn around and part it out. I happened to call them right around the same time and they made a deal with me for the engine, tranny, ecu, harness, etc. Then they stripped out all the other parts i didn't want/need or that they felt they could sell separately and cut the car in half. The front was then stored for possible purchase and the rear (mostly scrap) was tossed into the graveyard part of the their yard

I suppose you could try to get in touch with someone at one of those type places(ie, bionic autoparts) and tell them exactly what yer looking for. They have some sort of nationwide junkyard database and can find what you need elsewhere or perhaps keep an eye out for what you seek at the next auction.

Good luck.

Another spot is Arena Auto Auction in Bolingbrook, right off of Rt 53 and I-55. tverdek is right that they usually go to an auction after the insurance is done with it. Most places don't let cars sit around unless they can make money off of it in parts. Someone mentioned a junkyard in Lockport, it is called Southwest something or other and they are total jerks, at least in my experience. Quite a meager selection as well...the owners own the shop across the street on State and they appear to only car about domestics. Just my $0.02

Bionic treated me really well. They let me come check out the car before it was stripped down; gave me the vin info. Some guy there accidentally sold the ecu before i got there, and they were quick to find me a replacement. They listened to my concerns, had everything prepared when I needed, let me come back later to get more parts off the car that they didn't realize i needed. Price was also really nice I forget the guys name i dealt with... Jeremy (if yer reading) do you remember?

Vince is the guys name, he was honestly awesome, Frank got a deal he wasn't supposed to get on his swap parts but when i picked mine up Vince went the extra mile. I was supposed to get a 2003 WRX Engine, accesorries, harness, and ECU. When we got there the intercooler had been stolen off the motor(it was there the night before because Vince double checked himself). The harness which was supposed to still be in the car had been taken as well as the ECU. Vince got me an ECU in 10 days and got the 3ft of the ECU wiring side i needed at the same time. Motor now has about 9k on it and besides the normal WRX etrodinary cold start piston slap it's been solid and doesn't use any oil.
