2020 STI clutch noise
Hello,
I have a 2020 STI with <1000 miles. I recently had a whining or whirring noise whenever I depressed the clutch, usually at lower gears. I took it in to dealer to get it fixed and they said it was the clutch throw out bearing. So they replaced it under warranty, but when i got the car back, it started to make the same whining/whirring noise again. I will be taking it to the dealer again to have them look at it, but I want to see if anyone else knows what the issue can be before I take my car back. Thanks

Sorry for the late response. Their STI technician and I went for a drive and he didnt seem to notice it. I tried to help him notice the sound, but he said all noises he heard were normal. He was the one who replaced the throw out bearing too.
the car now has 2600 miles and still has the sound. I still havent found any info or clips on youtube with similar noise. |

Forgot to mention, the dealer told me that they sent the throw out bearing to SOA to have it inspected and received report that nothing was wrong. They said they replaced it the first time to "satisfy" the customer. Not really sure if they actually replaced it and really sent it to SOA. I got the paperwork saying that they did so, if any issues arise I guess I can show them that. And I got the car after 1 business, which sounds pretty quick, but I have no experience in this matter.
I want to go to a different dealer, but the next closest ones are 2 hrs away. |

That sucks, but it's probably the best idea. Just as a thought in the future - unless you live in the absolute middle of nowhere, I'd never buy a car brand where I was at the mercy of a single dealer. I think you want at least a couple within a reasonable driving distance.

I probably wont take mine in to a dealership because I hate letting people work on my car, for now I'll live with the rattling sound until my clutch goes bad and then I'll upgrade it. Not sure a dealership would even touch my car anyway since I've upgraded to GrpN mounts and carbon fiber drive shaft. The noise could be attributed to these..

I have a 2020 STI with short shifter. I've been experiencing the same exact issue as you. Took it to a dealership 2 days ago and techs said the same exact thing to me. Very frustrated. I've upgraded from a 2016, 2018 WRX both having their throw out bearing replaced with the same exact noise. I've addressed the concern to Subaru of America and suggested that I take it to another dealership with a claim number. I'll be taking it to another dealership nearby next week.
My advise is to call Subaru of America obtain a claim number before you go to another dealership. Keep us updated |
