I just got home from a monday well spent with Pat, Jamie and guys at Rocket Rally. Great guys and an even better tune. Thanks again Pat for clearing up that WG flutter, runs like a champ. 265.5whp and pulls hard. Job well done

PentUpWRX, what turbo are you running to get 265 peak?
Also, can you post your plot? Those are some sexy numbers. A lot closer to 300whp than mine is. Last edited by Penphoe; 12-01-2005 at 08:22 PM. Reason: Don't think the owner of the battlewagon was talking about drugs - "pot your plot?" ;) |

yup. Happy Days lost the vf34 title on Monday. so sad. but the cars are a bit different.
pent up's car is 'rare' in that he has a lot of small mods combined and relatively fresh motor... and a fairly agressive tune on it all. Its not fair to just say 'vf34'. With a vf34 you will normally get 240-245 this type of dyno. If you break 250 you are doing very good. 255-260 needs clean car not just the parts (in terms of car care), it is about the limit. **there are quite a few running in the lower mainland dyno'ing in at 250+ on vf34**. To break 300 you need a bigger turbo and a lot of other mods (including an STi). To get those numbers everything has to be right. Good plugs, good hoses, good exhaust, good gas, etc. We are very careful to run the dyno consistent so its not false numbers. In this specific case, keeping the car 'right', It helps that he is a mechanic. 235 is about the limit on the TD04. I'm not talking about 'over-running the turbos' to get a big dyno number, of course you can make better numbers than this, I'm talking about street tunes expected to be run for the life of the car. Although the stage 1/2 STis are hitting those power numbers (peak power), the torque curve is like double, so its not really even comparable except the peak hp number. We've also seen 18gs hit 250 **before fine-tuning**. Last edited by patr; 12-02-2005 at 02:20 AM. |

I could live with 235 with the stock turbo. Nice numbers that's impressive for sure. Proabaly still drives awesome too. Pat and Jamie, maybe, if you have time could we see a post or sticky of a faq. In it we could have info regarding the reference to "good" mods to do as you mentioned in the last post. It could help everyone understand the upgrades they do and why they come up with the numbers they do as far as power. Or maybe if the list is shorter, what "never ever to do"?!

Happy, you and PentUp are prime examples of what a well maintained car can do over similar mods without the same care to details and servicing/maintaining.
As to a sticky, if Mods ok it we can post up good vs nto good or not as good mods...but of course RR stuff will be in there!! |

One little letter has the power to completely change this thread. x 3 Tora, if you could post up a good mod/bad mod list, it would be a great help. |

Ok, we'll work something up for next week. Keep in mind these will be mods that we have tested only. We will not "hypothesize" on what could or couldn't be...also as said previously the same mods may not work as well on different cars due to other factors and the same mods will not be as good/bad with different tunes.

Sweet. I know a little about my car but there is so much sketchy info out there, even on Nasioc.

Just a thought Jamie. You guys did a different fan setup where you had the fan sitting on the hood of my car blowing air into the scoop. Which doesnt look as optimal as the setup I saw in some dyno day pics. I noticed in the pics of dyno day - you guys designed some sorta duct direct from the fan that completely covers the TMIC to get optimal cooling. You think that would spice up the Dyno numbers more than my previous fan setup? I would think so. |

We tested both set-ups and the differnce was negligable. We use that set up because then if we need access to the engine bay we don't have to spend time taking the hood fan off and opening the hood to get at say WG pills or whatever that we may want to tweak or check. So it's more for practicality than anything.

We've recently done a bunch of cars lately, got more stock baselines (bone stock WRX finally) and Legacy GT and STi. Let me know if you want them up (I am trying not to be a post whore - honest)

For us locals that can come up to Squamish and dyno our cars a stock WRX baseline (albeit not ours and only one sample) would still be useful. I'm interested in the torque and power curves (not just the outright max power number).

my gf's car is a bone stock 05 wrx wagoon...she's not interested in dynoing it, but if you wanted one to run through for comparison, we could probably pop up one day.
we actually tried to drop in the other day on the way back from pemberton, but i forgot to check the site for directions. edit: nm...just read that you got a stock one. |

peter -all the graphs show torq and power. People fixate on the max number so much it gets to be annoying, especially since it really is meaningless (i.e. "my car made 220" can be EASILY done, and a car that "only makes 200" can be 10 times better everywhere and even faster in a 1/4 or whatever due to torq.). They will be up tomorrow (I am at home now). Remember, any given car can be +-5 (really this can be up to 8, but whatever) for a given set of mods. This is what we have been seeing, anyhow.
