been searching through this thread, but either missed it, or it's never been asked...
I have a 2005 WRX and purchased an entirely new fuel pump assembly. Can I just use the new stock pre-filter/sock with the AEM340 pump I got? The filter that came in the kit is tiny in comparison to stock. Also, the kit came with a pigtail, but it appears the AEM pump has the OEM style plug. Do I need to use that pigtail, or is that only for other year cars? |

Hey guys,
There is no way I can go through all 357 pages so sorry if my questions have been already answered. Well now that I'm in the middle of building a track car, I was convinced to go with E85, plus there are pumps in east PA now so why not. After doing some research it only makes seans, regarding better power output and the lower temperature it burns. I understand that with E85 we can run higher CR, but how high to not effect the drivable on 93 gas? The engine I'm planning on building is a 2.35 de-stroker GT35 with D25 heads and it will be pushed on E85 on the track, but want to be able to drive it on 93 gas without issues. I'm curious to see what CR worked best for other people who are running E85, any tips with E85? Do you leave it in the gas tank when the car sits or do you drain it. How much of a issue is it when you add 93 gas to E85 after a track day? I kinda know what I want to do, but just looking for more info, because why not. " Knowledge is Power" right? Thanks all Last edited by BlackFighter; 11-23-2021 at 11:22 PM. |

D25 heads, guessing you have a 32bit ECU? If so, the easiest way to go about this is a flex fuel tune. This way you don't have to worry about calculating how much ethanol you're using in a given tank. It also means you don't have to swap maps anytime you change from one fuel to the other. Simply run the tank as low as you want, fill with E for the track and then fill with 93 when you drive home. Otherwise you'll need to always check E content and swap maps. Just because the pump says E85, doesn't mean it's actually E85. It could be E60 for instance. The ECU can compensate a certain amount when the actual content is off, but I can't remember by how much. I'd talk to your tuner about that. As for final CR, most people keep CR below 9.0:1 if they intend to use pump gas. If you were to only use E then you can go higher. 9.5:1 is pretty common. Have seen a few 10.0:1 and 10.5:1 builds as well. The higher the CR, the more you have to hope your tuner really knows what they are doing. |

It's going in a 05 Sti, so ya 32bit ECU. Already have a flex fuel kit waiting to be installed after engine break in on 93 gas first. Car will deff be tuned for flex fuel tune and tuner is well known and knowledgeable, so don't see a problem with tuning.

Being 93 helps, but even if it was 91 on high CR, you'd be fine. Try daily driving a 205 w/o AVCS on a VF39 on pump and then complain about a 2.3Ls drive-ability. Also since your going flex fuel, just buy a bunch of E85 in barrels or VP cans and mix up some ~E60 or so every tank if you don't want to go to the E pump every fill-up. Still get 90% of the benefits of E85, but you don't have to get it as often. |
