Default Simple question re possible top speed

Searched. Key words = impossible task.

What is the maximum top speed of a 2002 WRX, as limited my the transmission?

Let’s assume there is an unlimited amount of power - what will the stock drivetrain limit the top speed to?

Use this

https://www.tremec.com/calculadora.php

It allows you to plug in your gear ratios, tire size and rpm to find your theoretical top speed.

My perception is the car, in stock form, is drag limited to 135 mph (flat level road). This test was from 20 years ago on a flat unoccupied highway.

Gearing limited is about 168 mph. Stock 2002 drivetrain, 215/45-17 or 205/55-16. Same general revs/mile.

In this scenario:

Drivetrain only stock.
Wheels + tires 21”
Power can be anything. Let’s just say it’s more than the gearing ratios can accommodate. What do the stock ratios top out at?

Using the above parameters I get 196MPH.

Seems reasonable?

What are you using for max engine speed? My calc sheet says with 21" tire, speed drops to 152 mph (7000 rpm max). 215/45-17 has nominal diameter of 24.6".

Putting on a smaller tire should drive the revs higher and bring your top speed down.

My edited post says 168 mph, based on 6600 rpm.

You know all you have to do is drive in top gear and look at your speed at a given rpm that makes for easy math, like 3000 rpm's.
Note the speed.
then get up to 4000 rpm's and note the speed.
Then accumulate the difference between those numbers for each 1000 rpm's to redline or whatever rpm you think the engine won't blow up at.
Top speed

Engine built to run just 8k. (I'm aware my drivetrain is on borrowed time - but it's been fun seeing how it has lasted thus far. I got a "good one" seemingly. Ha.)

Anyway:

What more do you want? In all honesty it's kind of a pointless topic. You can make whatever theoretical top speed you want by changing gear ratios, RPM, final drive and tire size. You were given different ways of calculating said speed. If you want to keep the topic going, go drop a hundred grand and create a 200+mph standing mile car and then there will be some relevance here
