On the topic of EJ20X/EJ20Y:
I got to doing the timing belt on my EJ20X, and pulled the Oil Pump. It's a 12mm one, larger than the 11mm on the EJ255. Hope this info helps someone here.

46cc chambers on the z20 heads I had on my ej20y. Would assume this would be the same for the u20 dual avcs heads as they all ran the same static compression of 9.5:1 I didn’t ever measure the crown dish but here is a pic of my piston from my ej20x that I threw a rod on before installing the w20c Grb ej207 engine in 2013 |

Would you happen to know if these pistons are 'R20' spec? there's an R20 stamped on my engine block, and I wonder if it refers to the piston type. Thanks, |

I’m not familiar with r20 sorry. Where is the r20 stamped? At the top of the block near where the case halves come together? |

Can’t say I’ve ever noticed those numbers on the ej20x/y’s I’ve seen - that’s not to say they weren’t there it’s just that I haven’t specifically noticed them. The fact it says z20 tells me it’s an ej20y/x engine though. Mick |

Thanks, Mick. Apparently, the EJ205 & EJ207 have stamped codes which reflect the block 'type' (from https://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/ind...dentification/) That's wht the 'R20' indicates. see image: https://img.nasioc.com/image/h3GLa Last edited by bob307; 04-18-2021 at 10:49 AM. |

EJ20x VF52 94 Octane + Water Meth
Hi sorry for bringing up such an old thread but I’ve read the entire discussion and didn’t really figure out an answer to my question.
I have a 2008 WRX that I EJ20x (stock internals) swapped myself, I’ve also added a few mods like: VF52 1000cc injectors catless dp upgraded tmic 45mm ewg stage 1 wmi Dw65c fuel pump Sf intake 94 octane gas So I’m going to get protuned by a reputable shop near in the GTA, personally I’m hoping for around 330whp and up if safe, so I asked the tuner based on my mods just a rough estimate of how much he thinks I would make, his response was I would be limited to around 300whp because the EJ20x can’t safely hold more than 300whp or it risks throw a rod. Is this accurate or is he playing safe? Tuner uses dynojet if that makes any difference. Can I run over 300whp reliably and safely? Do I have the right mods to make my power goal? Ps it’s the only tuner I can go to due to Cobbs project green and personally not wanting to use ecutek I’m going opensource and he’s the only one that will tune Subaru’s opensource in my area. |

I feel the head gasket would be the weak link but I have blown up zero of these. I have one in an 11 wrx I’m enabling the davcs on now. 300 is prob a bunch on pump. I’d say 350 on E85.

It has the larger one for the dual AVCS.I bought a used WRX 2006 with a blown ej20x. Car had a td06-20g and fmic and stock injectors. Previous owner claims 350 whp. He also was on his second transmission. I have the open source tune for that car if you want it. The ej20x is higher compression than the usdm turbo ej. |

I’m running the stage 1 water meth kit tho so it’s basically like e85 that’s why I’m kinda of confused I see people make 300whp with similar mods and no water meth.

What power are you making if you don't mind me asking? I'm about to go the water/meth route with my 2010 Wrx that is technically "Stage 2", but the dyno run that was done post engine swap by the previous owner only put down around 215whp/237wtq.

I just got protuned like 2 weeks ago the car made 279awhp/269awtq on a dynojet. Tuner says I need equal length headers to hit the 300awhp mark.

Damn, so they're suggesting 20whp gain from ELH? Might invest in a set of those as well then before I proceed.

Recently had the ej20x installed in my 04’ FXT. How concerned should I be about driving it? Almost feel like it’s fragile (headcase). How dangerous is not having the one cam functional. Couldn’t this throw off timing and destroy motor. Tune necessary?

How does it run? It needs a tune to run. Find a tuner who can help you or start modifying your map. Running an ej20 on an ej25 tune is absolutely asinine. |

Pump gas & meth and ethanol aren't basically the same thing. It's a step between pump gas & ethanol. You don't get as high of an octane rating using meth as you would straight e85. My car makes an additional 70 hp/70 tq on its e85 map compared to it's 93/meth map.
