I just had this issue pop up on my wife's 2008 Outback 2.5i with 100,000 on it. Didn't correlate with anything specific, just driving down the interstate. Same symptoms, drives fine, shifts fine, etc. P0700 and a P1718. Also had an intermittent P0600. Couldn't find anything helpful on the forums, so I took it to the dealer for diagnostics and found the driver side cam oil pressure sensor was out and leaking. They sold me the part for $45 and I put it in myself with a 15/16" deep socket. Pulled the neg battery terminal for a couple minutes, re installed it, and started. No more code for the last week since I've changed it so it must have fixed it. Worth a shot, here's a tutorial on it over on the Outback forums. Evidently this sensor tells the VVL solenoid the pressure available and without that reading it throws these codes. The dealer also blamed "dirty oil", although the oil that's in that car is less than 1000 miles old, so I was more apprehensive of that answer, but it could be someone else's cause.

OK, searched but no real answers, just questions.

2009 Outback 2.5, about 130K miles.
Friend owns it, had questions.

Came to me with a P0420.
This summer had HG's done, coolant change, timing belt, plugs, etc.
CEL was recent, owner tired of spending money.

I went over things, went for test drive, then popped the P1718.
Cleared CEL, popped again.
When this happens, traction control light, AT temp light and another light come on. Car goes into limp mode and "stuck" in a low gear.
Everything says CAN wiring but not touched by me.
I did see the front engine grounds were broken off, likely when HG's were done so I replaced them.
Owner needed the car back so I don't know if that fixed it or not. I will have to wait and see.
Any thoughts?

Well well
I guess I should give one back to the forums


If U have the canbus error, p1718, for me, it was the abs module was faulty...

Being the dtc pointed to the p0700 TCU, it threw me,

The symptoms were flashing power, cruise and persistent cel.

Two days ago I drove to the gym, car was fine. However, when I left, the CEL came on. At first, the AT OIL temp was illuminated, but is no longer on. So I pulled the codes and got a p0700 and a p1718. Car still seems to be driving fine, no weird smells, still shifts smoothly and idles great. I attempted to clear the codes, but they stayed on. The only information I've been able to gather is that a few posters say it could be some sort of loose connection in the wiring/connectors, a short in the system or a loose ground but I have NO idea at all where to look for these Transmission connections.
I've recently changed the oil and had the cooling system flushed before winter. Other than that, I haven't done any work on it recently.

Only mods are the Williaty Hybrid intake mod from here(been on for about 4 months, never any problems/CELS before) and an STI catback.

Any input at all would really be appreciated. I am at a loss here and the light has been on for about 5 days now. I am starting to get worried since it is my only DD. Just wanted to see if anyone had any solutions before I take it in to the dealer.

Having similar issue with a 2009 Impreza.
check engine light

fault codes P1718 & P0700.
the AT OIL Temp light on


I disconnected battery cleaned all terminal reconnected. Need to drive it and see if the AT OIL Temp lights up again. Its off now.


Last post before this someone mentioned the ABS module being faulty, can anyone comment on that?
