Default Ver8 05 STi 6Speed - short block compatibility questions

Hi guys,
Been lurking for a while and can't quite put this info together so I wanted to reach out and see if any of you swappers have some info here.

I have a 2005 ver8 STI transmission from an ej207 that I am going to mate to my 06 wrx to get rid of the busted 5mt. I have the driveshaft on the way and all the other trans bits I need.

Here's my question:

I had also planned to get an EJ257 short block with internals so that I could crank up the power a bit at the flywheel and keep my 255 heads since they're still good and can save a little money here.

The question is will this combo work (EJ257sb + ver8 ej207 6MT)?
Must I get a newer 6MT from a 2.5L STi (6+)?

If not, I suppose I can look at the IAG or Crawford EJ255s.

Thanks in advance.

Yes it will bolt right up. All EJ short blocks will bolt to all EJ based transmissions. The issues are whether you have a push or pull type clutch and if the speedo is in the trans or not.

Thanks a bunch for the info.
I was aware of the push/pull issues but what about the speedo in the trans?
I believe VSS is not an issue here as it didn't switch to the hub units until 2008 i believe?
