I found one or two websites making them, pretty expensive of course. One was custom orders only, they show out of stock on their website but the description says to contact them. The other one was like $900 front and $700 rear or something. No idea if that included shipping, most likely not. I'm sure the demand for them isn't high.

I would, but I don’t trust the folks at my local Subaru dealership to do the work.

When I did have the VIN included list, I was on it. This is what happened the last time (Feb., 2020) I tried to get the work scheduled: (identifying info removed)

Thought I'd swing by and share this deal. Valvoline Synthetic CVTF is on sale 50% off on Amazon. 6qt cases going for $21 ea. This will be my first time trying Valvoline, I've been stuck on Amsoil CVTF for the past ~3 years with no complaints, but couldn't pass up this deal.

I would buy it, but I'm a little concerned about the 1 or 2 reports of people on other forums who said their CVTs blew up after using valvoline CVT fluid. It's possible that they just screwed something up like setting their drain and fill plugs in dirt, or that it was a coincidence, but it still worries me personally. I know I "should" just use the Subaru CVTF but it is very expensive as I'm sure you all know, if you can even find a dealer selling it in anything less than 5 gallon pails.

I wouldn’t use anything other than OEm either, why risk it.

There's risk in everything and many variables to account for those few who've experienced issues/failures with non-OE CVTF like @IHaveAHorse mentioned. I see no reason to be anxious, especially after I've switched to Amsoil in 2018 with multiple changes and no ill effects. Valvoline is the same color and strong, awful smell as Amsoil fluid, there's even a member on this forum who has switched to Valvoline in 2014 with no side effects.

I ended up getting 2 cases. I probably would have gone for 5+ if I had a more stable source of income right now. I'm 99% sure it will be fine to use and spending a little over $40 for 2 drain and fills worth of fluid was too good to pass up. Usually you're paying way more than that for just one drain and fill.

With Amsoil Preferred, I was paying $10.85/qt, which wasn't bad considering Subaru Fluid was $12-16/qt at my local dealer. This deal was $3.61/qt, so I picked up 2 cases as well as 2 gallons (bought the gallons prior to finding the case deal). Even at regular price, this stuff is $7.58/qt. I did 4 CVTF changes to get rid of the burnt fluid and replaced with Valvoline, and so far so good--been a little over a week and 300 miles give/take.

I understand there's still a lot of anxiety out there using cheaper brands on such a finicky transmission, but I can speak from experience that I only used Subaru CVTF in my car up until I hit 135k and needed a new valve body due to a solenoid failure. I switched to AMS after the repair and have been golden since--I'm near 170k now.

Those solenoids really have a longevity problem. That is like 90% of the cvt failures it seems.

At least a full trans replacement is pretty rare it seems.

Yep, that and torque converter failures were also common. Really sucked for me because when they announced the extended warranty in 2018, I had zero concerns and no reason to even have it inspected by the July deadline for having exceeded the mileage limit. I thought I may have been one of the lucky few with a bulletproof CVT with 130k.

My solenoid failed 3 months after the inspection deadline in October that year, and I was out $1900 for the repair.

I swear I saw a youtube video on this a few year ago, but never saved or got around to it - Anyone taken the instrument panel out? Any hidden screws/snap plastic pieces? I'm going in looking for my TPMS LED to pull out.

It was extremely easy to do. I covered up my TPMS light with a piece of black electrical tape, fast and easily reversible fix. They're in square cells that were I don't know, 3/4" long or something? LED at the back of the cell and the gauge face is a thin piece of plastic with translucent parts for the light to go through. I just put a piece of tape at the front part of the cell for the TPMS light.

The disassembly was easy too, I think all I had to do was unscrew those screws around the gauges and then pull the trim out and the whole thing came out, with some plastic clips and stuff. Can't remember which guide I followed, I'm sure you could just follow a Crosstrek guide. I find them way more searchable than Impreza guides because there are so many Impreza years and some people call their WRX/STI an Impreza which makes searching super difficult. But most of the Crosstreks until very recently were pretty much identical. Super easy to search like "how to remove crosstrek gauge cluster" and get relevant results compared to Impreza in place of Crosstrek.

OK enough rambling I'm just bored.

Are any of you on FB20society on Facebook group?

I mean I post a tonne on there, mainly because the interface for sharing pictures is easier. However, I realized a long time ago, all of the content about modding the Impreza will forever be unsearchable on the internet because the group is private.

Often times people look stuff up, it's buried deep in the forums. Not facebook.

Anyway, for the few regulars that are on this thread and still own their Impreza, I made some videos on youtube.

Here is my most recent one:
https://youtu.be/S8E-IfHWx3U

I'm still enjoying my car even though I got my ass handed to me "trying" to drag race some cars on three occasions. I know this car is much better as a cornering car, and I know I probably should have bought a wrx... But they didn't have a hatchback in 2015.

Anyway. I'm always looking for more mods to make this car drive and handle better. Has anyone come up with any new discoveries?

I have a lot of reading/catching up to do..

Hopefully I can cross post some of my mods so that they are easier to find for people searching the webs.

A while back I made a page for my impreza.

https://4roller.github.io/tuner/
It's a work in progress so ... Hopefully someone finds something useful.

Arlene actually launched fb20society.com forever ago addressing the issue you stated. Hardly anyone utilizes it since no forum can ever keep up with the rapid development and updates of mainstream social media.

I still use IG but left Facebook some time ago, and have very little regrets. I tend to stick to forums since they focus on a subject without having to track my searches and shove "relevant" ads and other marketing nonsense down my throat. Also, forum members who stick around tend to be more experienced and knowledgeable as opposed to the FB crowd—my 2¢.

Wish I could actually contribute something new as far as mods, last thing I did was install a Perrin pitch stop and added a Hayden 678 CVT cooler, but this was back in 2018. Lately, I've been getting bored with the car and gave up modifying it. I've only been looking into preventive maintenance threads on here if I'm on at all.

Ahh I never knew there was a FB20society forum website... I think most of the people on the FB20 group are relatively better than the crowds you get in wrx and car groups.

Yes I've continued to 'tune' my impreza for a while now and am always keeping reliability as a top goal. After all we all probably bought the car for its utility and not sportiness.

The pitch stop was one of my first mods. It added some NVH but the engine directness was totally worth it. But in terms of driveline, I found that differential lockdown (perrin or other) was a worthy mod. Coupled with a transmission mount insert. I know way back when, people in this thread also mentioned group N engine mounts and finally drive shaft carrier bushings. Those are the 5 driveline mods I known of. And the 3 I've installed really make a difference in terms of increasing awd drivetrain efficiencies.

Cvt cooler was definitely a worthy mod especially for hooning. I also installed one.

Lately I've been trying to milk the FB20 for all the hp/tq. 2-3 times a week I'll go out late at night to see if I can beaty previous atempts hp/tq ratings as well as MAF intake readings. So far I've gotten about 144whp/142wtq and 110.5g/s respectively based on torque pro readings. I still think the hp/tq values are a little high due to inclines and the grade of road I've been running. But with the tune and driveline mods I think a conservative 130whp is closer to reality. It's not much, compared to wrx's but the car is still a great reliable machine that also happens to be fun to drive.

Hey, Insurance is mandatory for Americans and permanent residents. If there is no policy, the citizen faces a fine of almost $ 700 or 2.5% of annual income. But the existence of a contract with an insurance company does not mean at all that you can be treated for free. You still have to pay, and often quite impressive amounts. In principle, I used the services of insurance for a car in this company and was satisfied https://www.americaninsurance.com/sr-50-insurance
Thanks

Anyone holding onto stock parts for no particular reason? I have:

Swaybar with endlinks / Axleback / Springs

Cleaned out my garage over the holidays and I think it may finally be time to let these go. Wife has a 16 Crosstrek that came from snow country so I may swap the axleback as hers has a little rust.

The only thing Im holding onto is the intake since I cant get e-checked (legally) in California with the CAI.

On that note if anyone picked up the Sport Mesh Grille and has their stock in SILVER laying around I'd be interested.

I've managed to sell almost all of my stock parts being active in the local and online car clubs over the years. Wheels (severely curb rashed and one bent), swaybar + endlinks, tires, grille, and even the janky fog lights alongside one of my cracked headlights.

Frankly, I think you'll be extremely lucky to find anyone willing to pay anything for your swaybar and springs on here, but ya never know. I unexpectedly sold my swaybar + endlinks + bushings to someone on Instagram who had a base model and didn't care for anything stiffer than 16mm.

What CAI do you have? I have a bunch of parts from my Impreza. But I feel like keeping them because if I ever want to sell my car, I'd put it back to stock.

I keep wanting to milk more out of it, but I am out of ideas... the CAI I bought is a Takeda afePower for the 2.5 legacy. I took it off because of the poor fitment. The airbox buts up against the VDC controller.
