The 6MT is different.

Just following this for more info.
Still reading and learning.

Could it be that you simply ended up with a lemon of a transmission? Even in today's higher-quality manufacturing facilities that still happens from time to time. Doesn't mean all 4EATs are crap.

To be fair, 300 hp is twice what the earlier stock Subarus put out. The bugeye models put down close to 300 hp stock, so if anything the later transmissions had to be able to handle that extra power output.

Both has no relevant with the 4EAT. The debate is about how much a "stock" Subaru 4EAT can take. Which isn't much. 99% of modded Subaru are going through the manual transmission. of the sub 1% that goes through the 4EAT, they blow up at very low power/torque levels. It does no one any service to spread the myth that a stock 4EAT can handle more, when it doesn't. With that being said, you can spend $4K to get it built, but then again we are no longer talking about stock.

No because this is the issue with the 4EAT. It's fine with stock power going through it and it'll run for 200K+ without any big problems, but the moment you pump more power through it, it's just a question of when and not if it's going to let go. Also, after speaking with IPT, they have to change the internal oiling as well as heat treat key components on top of upgraded clutch disc and other parts to get it to hold power. As i said before, in stock form the 4EAT is weak. So for anyone that considering running the 4EAT with power going thing you. You're best option is to save up and get it built.

Just to be clear, because there's seems to be alot of confusion. I'm not talking about all automatic transmissions or even a built 4EAT, just stock.

FYI, the 02-05 WRX put out 225ish-bhp and not 300.

Just ****, because you're argeuing everyone. And what debate? Look up the factsheets like i said, or lesrn how to drive an AT properly. You're the type of person that would argue 2+2=5 or some dumb **** like that. Your response show your intelligence, and definitely show your age. Your personal experience means **** to countless builds. Go troll elsewhere

Never said it out out 300 noodle, said thats what mines at. The same 4eat in subarus are in other vehicles with 400bhp with a different stall converter (stock tranny same as in subarus) do some damn research before spitting nonsense out. Put a better torque converter in then who no knows what it will handle before blowing. DAR DAR DAR

And to keep it up, the shiftkit, new higher stall torque converter is not building onto stock tranny, they are exponents connected to the tranny itself. So tranny is still stock while increasing the whp and tq breaking point. So please ****

Btw 4eats have the VTD-4eat which for AWD is superior to the 5MT which does not have it, which is essential to the subaru rally team...

I would base it on Subaru's own knowledge. They offered an STI in auto in japan and I think Australia. Well the torque was detuned to less than 300, I think to 250 but don't quote me. Point being the STI in auto has less torque than the 6MT from the factory. My guess is it was done so that they could warranty that auto trans. I love my 4eat, the long gears are great and at stage 2 the rubber band effect is not as bad as stock.

250btq is something like 200wtq or less. Which does say alot of how much
Subaru thinks it can handle over the long haul.

The WRX STI A-Line was aimed for adults and used a 2.5 liter flax boxer turbo engine with an AT transmission. The EJ25 engine was 2.5 liter ***65288;99.5mm×79.0mm***65289;with twin scroll turbos and IN/EX variable valve timing and produced 300ps at 6200rpm, max torque at 35.7kg-m between 2800***65374;6000rpm. A 2 pedal 5AT transmission with flipping control was the only transmission offered. Paddle shifting allowed for speedy up and down shifts.

The Forester guys are doing pretty well with their automatics. Most are doing little more than an extra trans cooler - sometimes a valve body upgrade or higher stall torque converter.

But, are you talking transmission cooler and all this for drag racing? Ugh. Or towing? UGH.
Would be nice if people would explain what the point of their recommendations are.
I just bought a 2009 Forester XT and am looking at 300-325 HP and thus I'm trying to research what the 4EATS is good for and how I should care for it (my first AUTO tranny in a Subaru). I will NOT be drag racing it or street racing it. Just wanting a slightly exhilarating experience now and then in my grocery getter/winter car.
