Default Immobilizer reset all keys lost

Lost the only set of keys to my 2011 Impreza. Had locksmith program two new keys with chips both of which have key and chip codes from dealership. Cars starts to turn over then dies and Subaru is saying the the immobilizer has to be reset and program to the new keys which runs $800 to $1300 dollars. Please tell me there is a way around this horrible design feature. Anyone have any ideas?

US model 2011 Impreza does not have the same system as later models, you do not have to send off components to have them unlocked to program keys when all are lost. All that is need for a 2011 is buy keys from Subaru and have the dealer program them to the car. All that requires is the Subaru diagnostic tool, a model specific learning code that every Suby tech has, and a key code for your VIN the dealer gets from Subaru.
If something happened to the immobilizer system and modules need to be replaced your locksmith is responsible because whatever he used to program the keys caused that problem. I have seen the keys locksmiths sell not work properly or program so that might be the problem.
Ask the dealer in detail why it will cost so much. Keys are only a couple hundred or less each, programming is about $120 - $150, and some dealers charge $2 - $5 for the code since Suby charges them $2.
It could be that the person giving you the quote is just giving you the generic quote for later models.

Thanks I will try that. My next step was to try an ecu and immobilizer swap from another 11 impreza.
