Default 2019 WRX Base Headunit Swap

The factory units in the 2019+ WRX include Apple Car play. My buddy is willing to sell me his unit for dirt cheap. I have a 2017 WRX base. Has anyone swapped units? I read a thread on here in search of an answer but couldn’t find anything. Thanks

I have a 2015 WRX, I installed a 2017 WRX steering wheel. everything works, I just had to re-program the Mastero unit to a 2017

:edit: sorry my response has nothing to do with this. but it is useful info.

I am hoping to do this exact swap but have not had any leads on a used 2019 HU with Nav other than buying one for $1000+ at the dealer

That MY is too new, and for once the HU and speakers in the non-hk system don't suck. They aren't mind blowing, but they don't make you rage and hate on it (the HU) like previous non-hk radios did. Starlink still doesn't work at all, but the AA/CP audio quality is actually quite good for a factory audio system.

So it's going to be a while till folks are going to be selling theirs.

I feel like you should be able to use the Maestro SW module to map the controls to your 2017 wheel

^ Don't they provide OEM steering wheel maps for aftermarket radios only?

I've been trying to get my hands on the service manuals for the 2019 to know the resistance differences of the steering wheel controls from 2017 to 2019, but I'm not having any luck (or a getting pic of the backside of the Nav+HK unit, for that matter).

I suppose swapping steering wheel controls for a 2019's would work -- might be worth ordering that from the dealer if OEM swapping is the route someone wants to do.

You're correct. idatalink supports aftermarket HU integration. Aftermarket HUs use a different kind of input for SWC controls, and the idatalink module and other swc integration solutions offer an interface between the SWC controls and the input to the aftermarket HU. A separate stock HU would not support that kind of swc input, rendering the idatalink unit useless.

Does anyone know the part number to the2019 nonHK radio? I want to do this upgrade to my 2017 WRX. I've found a detailed post on how to do this conversion, but it was with the HK system
