Dennis, I have read very many of your discussions on oil and I know you are very knowledgeable. I’ve seen your UOAs of Mobil 0w40 and was impressed. I couldn’t however justify being overly picky and spendy with my oil if I don’t take my car to redline all the time. I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes, but if you’re careful and timely I think 5w30 is OK

Default Try the Hubb oil filter!

Can't seem to find anyone using the Hubb oil filters on our Subarus! Highly recommend you try and pick one up in your area! Look into it, never change your filter again just clean and peace of mind, plus more filter media for cleaning! I'm using part 3207 and the motor loves it. New poster, long time viewer, just wanted to spread my recommendation!

I just recently bought an 18’ STi and performed an oil change myself. I went with Motul 5w-40 as that is what a fellow subie enthusiast recommended as well as also going with a Mazda Roki filter. I picked these items up from import image racing due to them having a packaged deal.

All synthetic oils are decent, just some are a bit better than others. I have had the weird luck of having 2 vehicles already that just burn up oil and there is no leak. Either I drive them too rough or just my luck. I did cut down on oil consumption a bit compared to the dealer's oil by switching to my own brand. I actually tried two different ones and they cut down the consumption significantly. Not sure why the dealer's oil is not so great. Here is a good article about this topic.
