So I have noticed that the 2019 usdm sti will have power folding mirrors. I'm hoping they will be a direct plug and play swap for my 18. Do you guys think we will be able to get those parts cheaper here than getting the ones from Japan parts?

It should be cheaper than japanparts. We might be able to just buy the motors and keep our usdm mirror glass. You would probably have to repin. I'll definitely consider it once heuberger has them.

I'm pretty sure its power only for mirror adjustment. Folding is still manual.

ya you're right...states "folding electric mirrors" not "power folding" aren't all mirrors electric...

Looked at the motortrend photos of the interior..no power folding button. Great.

Just got the directions for installation of automatic close/open module in japanese and english from Japanparts.com I read the reviews and one of them mentioned that you can request the instructions in english and japanese through the product question link. Have not installed but my guess is that you may not need the window switch if you have the automatic on/off module. Will update once I finish installing. OP, great post, would not have gotten this without your install

I sent a message to the OP but thought it would help to ask forum for help. I installed the power folding mirrors on MY17 wrx base model. I don't have heated mirrors. I can get the turn signals and the mirror adjustment to work, but no folding on both mirrors. I checked all the fuses. Used a multimeter to test voltage and see no voltage on the wires that should be powered to fold the mirror!! I suspect that either a fuse was removed for newer models or wires were taken out by subaru. I replaced the switch to see if it was a bad switch but both don't work. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!

well it took quite a few nights since I'm not very well versed in electronics but I did end up figuring it out after reading a few other installs for a older model wrx and a older model legacy of all cars lol. In short to my original post, I am pretty sure the auto close module does not need the switch to function. The reason why I say I'm pretty sure is because I dissected the original switch to figure out what was going on. Anyways, it all works awesome and I will post later what happened. Ends up Subaru redid the wires so that you can't use their OEM harness like the 2015.

So did it work without the switch? Did you have to wire it yourself? Yup I did power folding conversion on an outback (jdm legacy mirrors) and I ran the wires from the jdm mirror harness to the jdm switch. I think I found which one needed power and the brown and gray wires were for open and close.

I am unable to answer the original question of whether or not you need the JDM switch to operate the mirrors if you have the auto close module installed as well. I could not find out because I destroyed my original switch beforehand to see how it worked in hopes to figure out why the folding mirrors did not work on my car (MY17). I did not understand that I could have easily figured out the switch with a multimeter instead of pliers and a hammer. I believe that you do not need the JDM switch because the auto close module has relays built into the black box which will close the mirrors when you lock the door and open them when you turn the key to the ON ignition position. When you manually close the mirrors with the switch, it overrides the auto close module until you release the "fold-in" button on the JDM switch. Anyways, I had to custom wire the the power folding mirrors. See next post with my findings. For those that have not installed yet, you could purchase the power folding mirrors and auto close module from japanparts. If after installation the mirrors will require the switch, you can purchase the switch and the door panel that can house the JDM switch (94263VA170VH) from PartsOUQ.com it is cheaper and very fast shipping (2 days to Texas). Please report findings. I accidentally ordered 2 door panel pcs (94263VA170VH). If someone wants, please pm me and I will work out a deal for you to save money and I can get rid of it.

Unfortunately, I am not professionally trained in car electronics or electrical wiring. Anything you do is at your own risk and please verify everything for yourself.

Based on the wiring diagram I found for remote controlled mirrors I was able to identify the following wires on the mirror control harness:

See pictures in next post.

There are four unidentified wires that I believe may have been used for the power folding mirrors. When I traced these 4 unknown wires with a multimeter, they did not go to where they should go to create power folding, so I decided I needed to go the custom route.

Using a multimeter, I found out that when the JDM switch was in the unfolded mirror position: Pins 2&3 received power from Pin 1 and Pins 5&6 were grounded by Pin 7 on the D149 harness (switch harness). When the switch was depressed into the folded position: Pins 2&3 were grounded by Pin 7 and Pins 5&6 received power from Pin 1. Power folding is created by physically switching the current between the brown and gray wires for each folding mirror through the JDM switch.

With this information in addition to all the information I collected from this thread, I was able to wire up the power folding mirrors going the custom route.

i ordered my set from blackhawkjapan for my wrx. they were a bit pricey, but well worth it. the parts are stamped "made in taiwan" which i thought was interesting. they are also wide angle too, so it eliminates blind spots.

things to note...don't get one for a levorg..the plugs are different. when I was in japan, I made that mistake and picked up a set of levorg ones from upgarage and had to cut the harness off the WRX ones and solder them to the levorg power folding mirrors.

I was planning to depin it but the actual pins were different too.

spend a poop ton on new ones, or buy used ones from jdmracingmotors out of quebec. they have a few sets right now.

https://jdmracingmotors.com/en/subar...rors-in-white/

if you dont want to cut your door trim piece, you can order one from taiwan(if you have a source) as they are LHD and have the power fold mirrors in that market. I had a friend living in taiwan and asked him to order it for me and bring it back with him when he came back. the downside is that the texturing is different (its textured black plastic instead of smooth semigloss)

either coincidence, or you posted a similar question on a fb group...but I gave a partial answer there.

In my search, I also found a site operated out of the UAE that would could source the part and ship it. But i wasn't sure how reliable the site was.

94263VA170VH is what i got and they actually had to get it from a warehouse in japan.

Hey can someone post the wiring for the auto fold module. I have it but I’m not sure of where some of the wires go.

I’m also curious about this. I have a feeling that this is not the piano black panel as in the 2018+ STI. Maybe it’s the 2015-2017 color. I wonder if this part exists in piano black. I would definitely be buying this kit if I can find all the right parts and detailed instructions for the auto module and switch.

Somebody mentioned having English instructions. Could you share, whoever it was?
