So I failed visual for not having 2 cats for the first time in 7 years of having my EL headers with only 1 HF cat. Does anybody have a stock cat section for a NA Subaru I can borrow or buy? I just ordered a new UEL header with a cat section that should show up today or tomorrow but it also only has one cat so it won't pass visual either but at least it will fit a stock cat section unlike my current EL headers. Also I will have a OBX EL header and cat for sale or trade soon if you want to trade for a stock setup.

Default Emissions

So that time of the year came around again. I was suggested to hit up a jiffy lube in Bountiful due to a catless up and downpipe and tint on my 05 obxt. Apparently the manager there has put out word on facebook and other sites that he is subaru friendly, especially when he drives an sti thats twice as loud as my 06 sti that's got tomei uel and catless tbe. Anyway, after doing the test, he took off while I was waiting in the lobby, only to have is sidekick come tell me they posted in the database that they failed me for both tint and no cats. Awesome. Anyone have suggestions for either? Really don't want to pay 500 dollars for a hi flow cat and or tear the tint off the windows. Help me out with suggestions.

Don't go. They won't help you. They are honest guys trying to make an honest living and don't want to risk their jobs for a few extra cars to pass emissions.

I've heard that we were adopting California laws on emissions. I wouldn't even try. I'll be throwing my factory downpipe in and limping to a nearby inspector when those times of the year come.

Default How hard to pass Utah emissions with catless downpipe and uppipe?

Recently failed my emissions test here in salt lake with my 06 stage 2 wrx. Car is registered in Illinois where I intend to keep it registered. It has passed every emissions test back in Illinois, but failed due to tampered cats in utah. I am running grimmspeed up pipe, invidia catted dp, and borla hush with a stage 2 tune.

Any advice on what to do? I would hate to have to drive all the way back to Illinois just for an emissions test.

Thanks guys!

Too funny that your from Illinois as I am in Naperville till May. Either find someone to lend you their stock downpipe or go back to Illinois.

Raising a thread from the dead.

What's the rule on Cats here in Salt Lake? I have one aftermarket high flow cat that replaces the stock one in my downpipe, and for the first time I got hasseled while registering. Still have stock header/uppipe cats, just one high flow, is that enough to fail an emissions test? Side note I was also told I gutted my cats because there is no stamp on my Crawford down pipe. Do I need to go get it stamped somewhere to prove there's a cat in it?

Do you happen to have the receipt for the purchase of the cat? A highflow cat should pass an inspection unless something has changed recently regarding IM laws in SLC.

Having the receipt that shows it is catted should help you pass IM. With that said, you might want to contact Crawford and see if their catted downpipe is approved for on road use. If they state it is intended for off road use only, you might be SOL.

Unfortunately I didn't buy the downpipe direct from Crawford, I got it used off a FB group, but would they be willing to provide a proof of cat receipt with a part number essentially? I still have my stock one, so passing won't be an issue, I just haven't had a problem like that before. I thought if you had cats where they should be you were fine, I even told them I'd unbolt my midpipe so they could look down it.
