I'm sold...trading in my heavily modded '04 STi for a '15 Launch Edition, being told my dealer's one launch edition is arriving 1-2 months. Watch that presentation linked above, this is one incredible machine!
For those complaining about the engine...how do you not see the positive, there's already a ton of tested, ready to go upgrades for it. Think about it...Subaru invested time and $ perfecting the one part that's hardest to upgrade by us, the chassis. We can't just add aftermarket high strength steel stampings where needed to improve stiffness. We can't add on aftermarket active torque vectoring, etc. The one part they didn't touch is the one where we do have many options, power mods. Well done Subaru!! |

Congrats I'm pretty much sold also. This will be my third STI had an 04 then an 09. Probably going to get a base model with the HK/Keyless/Navi upgrade. Just got to decide on the color.

I just wish Subaru would increase the HP a little. But they seem very happy with the current motor and don't seem interested in adding HP to the STi.
All the other cars (Camaro, Mustang, etc, etc) are gradually increasing their HP and getting faster (1/4 mile and road course). I would expect the Camaro SS to get the 455 hp LT1 Vette engine in the very near future, because that has been been the pattern GM has followed in the past. The 2015 Mustang 5.0 GT is now up to 420+ hp and easily runs mid 12s with a skilled driver. I would like to see the STi run times at least as fast as the Camaro SS and Mustang GT on a road course. In all the testing I've seen or read, the STI's times are considerably slower than both cars around a road course. In a straight line, the Camaro and Mustang are also noticably faster. Fastest bone stock Camaro SS time is 12.5 in the 1/4 mile. Fastest bone stock Mustang 5.0 time is 12.2 in the 1/4 mile. I'll be very interested to see the track times for the 2015 STi at Nurburgring, Willow Springs, Virginia Raceway etc to see how it stacks up against the Camaro SS, Camaro SS 1LE, and Mustang 5.0. So far the Camaro SS 1LE is the best bang for the buck out there for a track car (road course and street car). Don' t take this the wrong way. I'm a hard core Subaru fan. I plan on purchasing another Suby (an STi) in the near future. I just want the STi (top dog WRX) to dominate the other cars out there in its price range (wet, dry, road course, whatever). A little bump in HP would really help out. And as the designers of the STi stated, their focus is on road course racing with the new STi design. So they should get their hands on the competition and make the STi just as fast or faster. If they can do that, I'm sold. Last edited by SGOSWRX; 03-19-2014 at 05:00 PM. |

Subaru's mission for the STi ?
I think Subaru is interested in improving their engines. But their approach is to do it incrementally - probably due to limited resources. They don't have the big budgets of a Ford or Chevy. Subaru evolves their cars.
The 2015 STi is better than the 2014 STi in almost every objective measure. Not so sure about the new body style but that is subjective. I don't believe that Subaru's mission is to make the fastest straight line car for that price bracket. Not everyone wants to buy the fastest 0-60 or 1/4 mile car. Nevertheless, the Camaro and Mustang are formidable competitors and Subaru will lose some customers to those models. A Boss 302 would be a great track car, but so would a Miata. Different cars but both make great track cars - with different reasons. Just give Subaru a year or two and you will see a new engine in the STi (and even a hatch). Since the 2015 WRX received a new engine, everyone expected the STi to follow suit. As such, expectations were set, and people were disappointed. But really, even though the 2015 STi has the same engine, it is better tuned and more responsive. The good news with the 2015 STi engine is that all the tuners are familiar with it and they already know how to get more power from it. |

I loved the concept and was a little let down when they unveiled it. Sold my 07 WRX last spring and bought a truck with the idea of picking up a fun RWD car this spring to mod. Owning 2 vehicles meant I could mod and not worry about breaking down. Was thinking mr2/rx7/rx8 (with new engine)/s2000/350z roadster/Genesis/etc.
Couple weekends ago I went to the auto show and they had a new WRX and STi. Needless to say the 15 WRX looks like a damn good buy. I've missed my old car since selling it, looks like Subie will be pulling me back in. I will say, I think the seats in my old car were more comfortable though. As for WRX vs STi, I don't see much value in going to the STi until it gets a new motor. It's not a knock, I just think the new WRX is tremendous value. |

I too like everyone else wish the new motor was put in the STI, the low end tq is impressive, but the 2.0L FADIT fan boys are too quick to bash the PROVEN ej257. You have to give credit where credit is due. No motor is perfect but this bad boy has delivered a respectable amount of performance for over a decade. Not to mention being very mod friendly. |

I think that was a key choice for the 2015 STI, the modding community. Staying with the EJ257 makes a ton of sense because there are already a pile of aftermarket parts for it. There's not guess work, no surprises, no waiting for new hardware to do any modding. It's known and ready for anyone wanting to make big power.
At the same time you get a vastly improved chassis from the previous gen AND vastly quicker handling dynamics that are hugely improved over the previous gen as well as the new gen WRX. Simply put the new STI will eat up the road with high precision...and you won't have to toss $1k worth of bushings/mounts to get it. I think Subaru did a great job differentiating the WRX from the STI in terms of core demographic and user intent. The STI is now a much better base than it was before for tuning all while still being familiar for power delivery. At the same time the WRX is there for everyone else, competent and powerful but ultimately tamed down for the average consumer. Outside of a stripped out, big turbo version set up specifically for track racing, Subaru couldn't have offered much better for the true enthusiast. |

I saw my first 2015 WRX, in white... I had to triple check, 'cause at first glance I thought it was a Civic, or maybe a new Corolla... What a let down... definition of SLEEPER! Are the fenders even flared... looked an AWFUL! lot like a base 4 door Impreza... with SLIGHTLY bigger wheels... Dear Subaru, put THAT! engine in the BRZ..... PLEASE! Thank you... |

CWP vs. SWP
How does the new Crystal White Pearl compare to the old Satin White Pearl?
Anyone know? |
