It's a good step for Subaru, not a big fan of them not having a five or possibly six speed but the forester needed to look less like a shoe and more sporty.

Is that really the excuse for getting rid of it? I seriously doubt it made any difference. I'm willing to bet it was more about what the average sheep find aesthetically pleasing.

The short test drive at the Chicago auto show last month made the price of parking and admission almost worth it. It was about a mile down MLK and back, so some bumpy potholes without any highway or corners. Non turbo model, CVT. The suspension soaked up bumps well enough, and power was adequate. Can't really comment on the CVT, since I didn't drive it up or down big hills. Interior was a step up from the current Forester. The Eyesight system was annoying and felt like a drunk driver was hitting the brakes while I was telling him what to do. Anyway, that's my 2c.

Drove the XT at Evanston Subaru last night. Short test drive, but I like it. Firm suspension but the bumps are rounded off. Now to see if my wife gets it or not . . .
BTW if you go contact Mike, the internet manager. He's a good guy, active on this forum.

In talks with the dealer here for an XT Premium for the wife. We're about three months away from buying but if we need to order what we want it could be a twelve week wait. All we want is a Premium in white with a couple accessories. We've also tested the 13 Escape ecoboost 2.0 with "awd" and she likes it but we hate the way they look.

If I didn't get z-plan pricing I would go with the Forester right now based on what I can read on paper. If it drives as good or better than the Escape it's a done deal.

That's almost exactly what we're doing, except with an XT vs. Explorer instead. It'll be her car, so it's her choice.
I like the Forester much better. Better sized, tighter handling, and no stupid (and dangerous) touch screen. The Explorer actually has touch screen HVAC.

Same with the escape. Touch screen hvac which is a pain
There are standard contols as well for redundancy. Makes no sense!

She's also doing all the test driving so I can't get a great idea of how they drive as a passenger.

The Escape had a nice, comfy ride as I recall. Good power with minimal lag, but to me the Forester felt sportier and faster. Maybe because it's lighter, I don't know. The Forester also has better visibility due to smaller pillars.
The Explorer is like the Edge in that it has no standard HVAC controls. We rented an Edge for a week on a vacation, and to me that touch screen is a dealbreaker.

I just picked my forester xt up last night and I can tell you guys it does not disappoint. The inside is pretty high tech and I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the screens and what exactly they mean lol. Step up for subaru!
