While I'm not saying it's likely, before we go calling names and making assumptions, you can't necessarily assume that the driver of the Subaru even knew he caused the accident.

For all we know, the motorcycle was in his blind spot and he ran him off the road without realizing it. Or perhaps he clipped his wheel, etc. just enough that perhaps the driver didn't feel/hear that he hit someone. Beyond maybe a rubber scuff mark, the car may not be damaged at all.

At least we can hope he didn't intentionally or accidentally punt him and not pull over.

Yet it only says "fueled by road rage" one would assume with that statement witnesses gave their statements and the investigators came to that conclusion that he full indeed know about the accident.

Well you said it, you're assuming. It's not like "road rage" isn't a buzz word everyone uses to describe anything from speeding to passing on the right these days...

I'm not saying it's at all likely he doesn't know...all I'm saying is that, based on the limited info provided, we don't know.

A slight tire rub or touch of a handle bar at the rear of the car (while I agree would be noticed by most people in most situations), doesn't have to be all THAT significant to lead to a bike going down.

As I also mentioned...do we even KNOW they made contact? How? Just the statement? What exactly did they see? It would be very easy for a witness to see a car change lanes, and it merely appear that it made contact with the bike.

Again, not much information given in the article.

Wow, right in the old backyard, I hadnt heard of this. Terrible news, there are some major jackasses in the Reno area, and unfortunately a bazillion silver WRX's. Hopefully the seccs.org folks or I-club folks can help, lots of Reno folks there.

oddly enough all I can think about in regards to the Subaru is "They lived..."

Sucks to see another officer go down. It's been a rough month in the East Bay for law enforcement. Hopefully they catch this tool.

^I would like to hope so. I can't imagine not stopping after hitting someone. Maybe they freaked and took off. Hopefully some time to think about it gives them the sense to go turn themselves in.

Hoping that the Reno community can help, theyre pretty tight and the subaru people tend to know each other, or at least know of each other. Who knows. Somebody might know somebody, etc. Do be careful if travelling through the north valleys of Reno on 395, I must say its among the worst driving Ive seen in the country, and Ive driven in 46 of the lower 48. There are plenty there who stopped caring a long time ago.

All in all, I would just like the truth as none of us know what happened and all we can base it off is what the report states. Like Soapbox mentioned. It could have very well been a small tap and the rider/officer attempting to avoid the collision resulting in the accident. I'm sure many of you ride or have ridden and understand it really doesn't take much to be run off the road or how a small tap (which wouldn't be felt by the driver) can turn into something horrible. Unfortunately someone lost their life and I hope the truth comes out and the driver steps forward.

This is horrible and very sad to see. I both own a WRX and have been riding, still ride sport bikes for 17+ years now. I have been run off the road on two occasions, one was a 75 year old man with his wife in a minivan, and the other was a young woman in her 20's who was using her cell phone. Neither of my events included malicious intent and in both instances the only way they even knew they were running me off the road was the sound of my fist hitting their windows. Luckily for me both of these happened at low speeds and with my gear I only sustained minor injuries. If this person did this intentionally there are no words that can describe the torment I hope they receive in hell, but honestly chances are they had no idea until it happened and they panicked and kept driving. The article says left/left front damage which leads me to believe the rider was passing the WRX and they either changed lanes without looking or he was in their blindspot. Bottom line is this person needs to come forward, and everyone needs to be mindfull of their surroundings when driving, save the texts, the Big Mac and the conversation with your buddy for when you are not operating a potential deadly weapon.

Well, thats what they are trying to figure out. Whether intentional or not, someone got killed. We have no business nitpick judging it from our speculative keyboards. I hope they figure it out, localish late model silver WRX with specific corner damage? Cant hide long no matter what town he's in. Somebody knows who it is. Local news stopped mentioning potential road rage, but that a witness saw the car got into the lane of the bike and hit it. No more media updates since 7/31.

I live in this area, and there are quite a few WRX's around, so it might be hard to pinpoint the car. Heck, I have a Dark Grey Metallic wrx and there is a silver WRX that parks near me at my apartments (south Reno), but his car has never had tint, so its not him.

I really do hope they find the person who did this, but its probably not going to be easy knowing how popular the wrx seems to be in this general area, and that he is using the standard license plate.

The articles also said they were heading Northbound on 395 and it happened near the lake. The lake is right on the CA/NV border, so this guy was probably in California minutes after the accident, and he could have been in Oregon about 4 hours later if he headed north. If he knows he caused the accident and is watching the news, he may not be coming back anytime soon.

Thats not the car, they would just run the plate. And the car in the image is a WRX, just an example, not the actual car.
