Steven's WRX has only 9k miles on it. There should be no question that it should be repaired under warranty.

Subaru of America doesn't have a warranty agreement with S.U.K., only with Subaru of Canada. If you take your US spec to Canada and need warranty work, a dealer up there will do it and vise-versa. Not so for overseas. The dealer was technically right in saying that a Subaru store in the UK could service the car (it's a Subaru, they should know how to work on it), but he didn't clarify whether or not that work would be warranty or customer pay. Unfortunately, it could only be customer pay. In the case of clutch chatter, it normally would be a warranty issue assuming the disc or flywheel didn't get damaged through abusive driving AND if the car was located in the states. Since this car isn't in the US or Canada, it can't be done as warranty. Before anyone says "but they're the same company," SOA and SUK are not the same company. They may be owned by the same company (FHI), but they are both fully independent distributors from one another and aren't required to play nice with one another.

As for the cruise control clip getting done, that is something that is a POTENTIAL safety issue, it is likely that there is a similar recall in England for it, and it is small enough that a dealer would probably do it free of charge in the interest of gaining a customer. A dealer in the states is required to perform RECALLS on vehicles, even if they are deemed to be ineligible for warranty coverage (ie salvage titled cars can still get recalls done). By the way, there was only one confirmed case of the cruise control cable causing the throttle to stick open, but better safe than sorry.

Default Warranty Issues:

Well just like all you guys I to was messed with about my warranty. I just bought a subaru about 1 wk. ago from champion nissan and wed. night i was drivin to the car to the car wash and when i shifted into second at about 4,000 rpm there was a loud noise from my tranny. well i stopped at the nearby gas station and i knew something was wrong with my second gear. well i had my car towed back to champion nissan and they sent it to subaru. well subaru took apart my tranny and said they werent goin to cover it because due to the 2nd gear being stripped off that it was not covered in my warranty. Well i bought an extended warranty from champion nissan and them as well were denieing my warranty also.??? so i got a week old used 2002 wrx sittin in who knows subaru dealership and i dont have the $ to get this fixed! so i contacted SOA and they told me that even though they werent gonna cover this that my extended warranty should. well im at a standstill right know but hopefully this works out for me and i get my subbie back. i traded my 2000 civic si for a turbo car but didnt know this would end up like this??? Honda should hurry up and make a turbo civic so i can stick with hondas.

Extended warranties only pick up where the factory warranty stops. Extended warranties will not cover something denied by Subaru. The only recourse you may have is to take it up with the sales manager of the Nissan dealership. If you are COMPLETELY sure you did not beat on the car AT ALL, and can somehow prove it, you MAY have a case because the previous owner is probably the one that did the damage causing the failure. If that is the case, you, unfortunatly, got screwed by the previous owner.

I agree. However, I would think that since this happened within one week of purchase the dealer would cover the repair. Check into your state's consumer protection laws.

Problem And Likely Cause: Originally synchro problem 4 & 5th Gear, after changing tranny car now clanks from center diff and very "nudgy" on acc.

Modifications: Blitz BOV

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: Fill in only if above was "yes" and you were denied warranty coverage

Your Story: Car goes in for simple synchro work, comes out with new tranny that makes strange sounds as well as not being smooth when i accelerate. Dealer says it needs a new Diff controller...no clue who to believe anymore.

Problem And Likely Cause: Weak tranny and worn clutch.

Modifications: AEM intake, Perrin lightwieght crankshaft pulley, Borla Headers, Random tech cat, Cobb catback, TWM S/S, etc..

Submitted For Warranty Work: No

Reason Given For Denial: Wasn't but would have been 'enthusiastic driving' becuase of the mods and was 3 months out of the warranty from factory.

Your Story: I spoke with a SOA rep after talking to Jones, it ends up that I didn't need to talk to him but Jones said I had to (idiots). SOA told me that yea it's 3 months out of warranty however since I'm so far under 60k miles they might help me out, BUT any aftermarket parts would hurt my chances and I would have to find a cool service manager. I had the option of Jones to work on it but I also had to persuade the service manager there that it should be under warranty. Instead I chose to take it to a shop I know of and see if they can't do better. Everyone knows Jones will not solve a problem but add more. I wanted to try for the warranty however due to distance and lack of time Jones was the only option and to me that wasn't an option. Hopefully I can post later about how cheap and great the shop I took it to was

Your Story: I took it in to check out the synchro, they said they couldn't "hear" the noise. They should have actually felt the grind if they ran it up to like 6k and shifted like i told them. I called back to give the guy a ride to show them and they said it wouldnt be under warranty due to my power modifications

no where legally, but it grinds going into 5th, not leaving...

Top of 4th gear is what? 100? I'm not even sure. You don't have to take it to redline, just to atleast 5500, maybe 6000 in 4th gear. You can do that on an on ramp, the highway, an open road...

You're right -- I was thinking about 4th in my 5MT WRX. Top of 4th in it is 120mph+.

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): yes

Reason Given For Denial: No problems found

Your Story:

Engine stalled around 80 mph on the freeway. Short of one lane to the shoulder of the freeway and almost got rear ended by a semi truck. Had it towed to the Subaru dealer and they claimed that there are no problems what so ever except the engine failed on the first start up attempt.
I nicely voiced my concern with Subaru and I was told that the repair labor and towing is not covered by the added security ($1500) because no problems are found. I nicely informed them that I got lucky in this incident and they told me that they can only document this incident. At that moment, I was irritated. I told them that if that happens again on the freeway, I am not sure if I will be able to speak with them regarding this issue. No actions taken. This is the second subaru I own and both vehicle brought me nothing but problems one after another. Not to mention the warranty service is horrible and the last incident almost cost me and my passengers our life. IMO, the fast n furious fad is going to fade, unless they shape up with their service they are going to lose a lot of customers in the long run. I am selling my STi and I will never purchase another Subaru ever again...

Default Clutch

Name: JP

Make: 03 WRX sedan

Mileage: 33K

Time Out Of Use: One day

Problem And Likely Cause: Clutch was slipping for about 6 months-I never killed a clutch in 30 yrs of driving MTs...Autocrossed 15 events

Modifications: Cobb Stage 2, STI UP, Helix DP, SPT catback, Whiteline G4s...Into the dealer complete with Cobb stickers!

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Y

Reason Given For Denial: Clutch and flywheel where replaced under warrenty. The feedback that I got back was the clutch and flywheel did not look abused...just worn to bones...

Your Story: I could not be happier. As as former owner of a 89 GL-10 wagon, which I loved but had to retire at 75K because of blown head gaskets(the dealer told me to drive it over a cliff), it was a major leap of faith for me to but another Subaru(after owing 2 trouble free toyotas which are still going strong). This has been a significant event for me in terms of brand loyalty...this car will be given to my son next year when I buy my STI.

It's not so much a sound as a violent, whole-car shaking as the clutch tries to engage. So the sound is of a car shaking and jerking if you can imagine it.

Problem And Likely Cause: Water Pump was leaking/ then something with tensioner broke too?

Modifications: None

Submitted For Warranty Work (Yes/No): Yes

Reason Given For Denial: None. covered under warranty and rcved rental car. DODGE NEON!!

Your Story: Car had puffs of white smoke coming out, so took it in stating I smelled burning radiator fluid. Checked out.. water pump was leaking. Pump replaced, rcved call to pick up car after 5 days. Picked up car to hear a noise never heard before. the minute it came out of the back of the dealer, 2 mins later went back into the shop. Tech came out to show me what was broken. He opened up this cover right behind the Radiator tank. Something about the tensioner? Had a broke metal piece with ball bearings all over the bottom. Wasn't paying much attention. Sad that no car for another week or so... tech said he never seen that part ever break. will update with what was broken when I rcv car.

UPDATE.. Car is going back in. Making the same exact sound that it made when the car came out of the shop. Taking back in Monday. ARGH! I'm thinking same piece broke again?? this is annoying

It's only covered for the 3/36 warranty unless you have a Subaru Added Security Plan
