Trunk wont pop open
Had the car for 3 months now
My first problem I have encountered. The trunk wont pop open from the driver seat lever anymore. I have to use the key now! Weird Happened today, don't know why. Must get fixed under warranty.

I had the same problem, but it was a rather simple thing to fix. On the trunk, next to the latch is a lever that enables/disables the trunk release from the inside. Not sure if this would be the case, but it'd be worth checking.

Mine is the other way around. The key won't open the trunk so I tried that valet switch. Then I couldn't open it at all. So I had to reach the switch from the back seats.

You do have a trunck release disable lever next to the latch in the trunk. Flip it the other way and try the trunk release again. It should work.

If it is not the lock out switch (lever attached to the trunk latch on the right side) Check to see if the bolts that secure the latch to the trunk lid are firmly screwed in. It there is play in the latch (wobbles side to side when you try to move it) then those bolts need to be tightened. Finger tightening it should do it temporarily. Socket wrench it tightly and you shouldent have a problem again.

i have the same problem. its not the little lever in the trunk for sure. i already tried that. it opens when i use the key but not from the driverside. my dealer is over 40 miles away. i live in los angeles and the dealer is in irvine so i only take it to the dealer if i have absolutely have to. if ne1 can offer a heads up on this one, it would be greatly appreciated.

First, read your owner's manual and make sure your problem isn't the "valet" lever on the trunk latch. The first pic below shows it. If it is down (as in the pic) it is in normal mode. If it is flipped up it is in valet (key only) mode.
My problem was that the part of the latch on the car (not on the trunk lid) was way too low, making the trunk hard to shut (you had to slam it pretty good). It also made it hard to open with the key or the lever by the driver's seat (both required way too much effort). Eventually the lever stopped working... I'm assuming the cable stretched. Anyway, if you loosen the two bolts that hold the catch in place (second pic below) and move the latch/catch up slightly (we're talking millimeters here) and tighten it back down it should fix the problem. I had to adjust mine on two different ocassions to get it right... since then it has worked perfectly. Again, don't raise it much or you run the risk of 1) making your trunk deck loose and noisy and 2) causing a water leak because the trunk deck isn't fitting tightly against the seal. Aren't digital cameras cool? Oh, also, have someone pull the lever while you watch the lower part of the latch (in the 1st pic). Make sure the lever thingy moves to the left enough to push the valet "switch" when the trunk is shut... that's what actually pops the trunk. If it isn't moving you may have a broken cable. |
