Default XS-A (read: heavier SM/XP on 200TW)

Also, CAM for all

https://www.scca.com/articles/201339...lo-competition

Quote:
Unveiled in a town hall of autocross event planners and participants at the SCCA Convention in January, the Xtreme Street (XS) category is the newest classing of cars eligible for SCCA Solo competition. The category will be divided into two classes – Xtreme Street A (XS-A) and Xtreme Street B (XS-B).

The category is essentially comprised for competitors who would like to compete with a modified car, on street tires, but under the current rules would fall within a more technical and more challenging rule set class. At its heart, XS is targeting street legal cars with modifications that move it beyond the Street categories of the traditional autocross class.

As an example, all cars must be licensed and insured to drive on public roads. Typical features such as lights, wipers and heaters must remain, and the car should have a “finished” look on its interior. While modifications from OEM parts are allowed and even encouraged, they should be replaced and not simply removed, with some exceptions spelled out in the full rule set.

Nearly any wheel is allowed, but allowable tires are those with a UTQG Treadwear Grade of 200 or higher. Minimum weights are outlined in the full rule set.

The XS category has been deemed a Supplemental Class for 2020 and is mainly aimed at Regional/Divisional competition initially. While it will appear as a class at Tire Rack SCCA National Tour and ProSolo regular season events this season, the supplemental class designation means that it will not be eligible for contingency awards, Super or Ladies Challenges, or ProSolo points.
Detailed Rules:
Quote:
Xtreme Street (XS) Category
Rationale
• The purpose of the Xtreme Street (XS) Category is to attract automobile enthusiasts
interested in autocross events with street vehicles using minimal rules that allow for
creative modifications with limited restrictions. This category is intended to appeal to
regional/local competitors who would like to compete with a modified car on street
tires but would otherwise be classed in high-prep race tire categories.
Eligible Vehicles
• Must be an automobile or truck (e.g., pickup, SUV) manufactured for road use and legal to
drive on US roads. Non-US models are allowed and right-hand-drive steering is permitted.
• Must be licensed & insured.
• Must include all road-going components such as lights, wipers, interior, heater, etc.
• Must comply with these sections of the SCCA® National Solo® Rules:
o Section 3, Vehicles
o Appendix I, Sound Measurement Procedures
• EXCLUDED: Acura NSX; Audi R8; Ferrari (all); Ford GT; Lamborghini (all); Lotus 7 (all including
clones); McLaren (all); Porsche 911 (all w/liquid-cooled engines).
Body and Bodywork
• Interior and exterior must have a “finished” look (e.g., carpeted, upholstered, painted,
coated).
• Must have OE or OE-equivalent windshield. Side glass must be present if original for the
vehicle and may be replaced with polycarbonate (e.g., Lexan®), minimum thickness 1/8”
(0.125 in.; 3.2 mm).
• Dashboard may be replaced or modified but must be “finished” and cover the original area.
• Headliner may be replaced.
• Interior panels (e.g., door panels, kick panels) forward of the B pillar (driver and front
passenger area) may be replaced, not removed, with an upholstered or “finished” panel of
any material.
• The area behind the B pillar may have panels and carpet removed. Exposed metal interior
surfaces must be painted or “finished.” (No “race car” interiors, please.)
• Frontseat(s) may be replaced or modified. Rearseat(s) may be replaced, modified, or
removed. The driver’s seating area must not cross the geometric centerline and must not
intrude into the original rearseat area.
• Exterior body panels may be replaced or modified in the original locations. Non-metallic
fender liners may be removed.
• Frame/chassis may be modified including suspension attachment points. Alternate
subframes (K-members) are allowed. Vehicle perimeter and wheelbase must be full-scale to
the original model. Incidental wheelbase changes resulting from suspension changes are
permitted. Thisis not an allowance to shorten or lengthen the chassis/body (e.g., change the
scale from the original).
• Fuel tank/cell may be replaced, modified, and/or relocated.
• A front splitter, air dam, spoiler, canards, and vertical members (e.g., fences, endplates) may
be added below the top of the bumper (measured at the highest front most point of the
bodywork). Components may extend 6.0” (152.4 mm) maximum forward of the perimeter of
the original body (excluding non-integral bumpers) but may not extend rearward past the centerline of the front axle. No portion may be wider than the front bodywork (ahead of the
doors including flaring).
• A rear spoiler or a rear wing may be added, removed, or modified but must not extend past
the perimeter of the original body (excluding non-integral bumpers). Endplates are allowed;
size is not restricted. A rear spoiler may extend 10.0” (254 mm) maximum from the original
body. A rear wing, components, and attachment points must be behind the centerline of the
rear axle and may extend 6.0” maximum above the topmost portion of the roofline (or
windshield frame for a convertible). The wing may not be mounted behind the rearmost
portion of the original body (excluding non-integral bumpers). Components, such as
mounting struts, may be behind the body. The maximum number of non-OE wing elements is
two (2). The total surface area of all wing elements is 8.0 sq. ft. maximum. Changes in wing
position are allowed in grid. Non-OE wings that are adjustable-in-motion must be disabled
and “locked” in position.
• Body electrical system components are not restricted.
Wheels and Tires
• Any wheels are allowed. Non-metallic wheels must becertified/approved from an
appropriate, recognized standards organization (e.g., FIA, SFI, SAE, TUV, etc.).
• DOT tires with a UTQG Treadwear Grade of 200 or higher are required.
o EXCLUDED: Kumho Ecsta V720 ACR; Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and Pilot Sport Cup 2
ZP.
Brake, Suspension, and Steering Systems
• Components and method of attachment are not restricted except brake rotor/drum friction
surfaces must be of ferrous metal.
o EXCEPTION: OE non-ferrous rotors may be retained.
• Material may be added and/or removed from strut towers.
Engine and Drivetrain Allowances
• Engine cylinder block or rotor housing must be from a production automobile or a copy (e.g.,
Dart, BMP, Ford Performance); non-US blocks are permitted. Motorcycle or industrial-based
cylinder blocks are not allowed.
• All other engine and powertrain components and attachments are not restricted.
Minimum Weights (without driver, lbs.)
• Class XS-A
AWD: 3000
RWD: 2750
FWD: 2500
• Class XS-B
RWD: 2150
FWD: 2000
Supplemental Class – Suggested for use at Regional/Divisional-level Solo events and
will be offered at 2020 SCCA® National Tour and ProSolo® regular season events as a
Supplemental/Exhibition class (no contingency awards, not eligible for Super/Women’s
Challenges, no PS points)
This will probably end up being my future home, provided the class has good participation/sticks around (and gets a national entry someday).

This is the perfect class for my car. I never really did much autocross with it because it was too modified to be anywhere close to in the same league as most of the cars it would end up against.

At least now when i get smoked I'll have no excuses.

This class is no different because all the cars you were up against before would also be legal for XSA

I will say, as long as it doesn't get a jacket or contingency that will keep some people away, but as soon as it get's contingency all the casual people who didn't show up because they were getting stomped will start getting stomped again.

Interesting. This could bode well for some Global Time Attack Street Class cars to fit in an AutoX class without massive changes.

Hey man... don't ruin my dreams.

Really I just want to have fun without being in a class where the cars are completely stripped down cars on slicks and this should allow that if nothing else.

I have no aspirations of being truly competitive. I built the car for me, not to a class rulebook so... yeah

Yeah, this aligns with my goals for the car a little better than the SM ruleset did, and I'm still playing with street tires, so I don't have to go to hoosier level going this route.

Yeah my local scca guy sent me this the moment he knew about it, he knows my car pretty well and was really happy there is a class that makes sense finally seeing I wasnt willing to fully gut my DD.

This should be interesting, my car is down at 2800lbs wet so it looks like 200lbs are getting added to the rear half of the car for these. Lol. Always had my best times with a full rear seat.

Contemplating doing an XS-B for my new project car. Question about the interior rules:

The rules state the interior must be upholster, but the back seats can be removed. Does this mean something like the 6oc rear seat delete kit would need to be coated with cloth or would it be fine as bare plastic?

interior behind the front seats appears to be stripable. It says you can remove door panels and such so I'd guess bare plastic is ok. Worst case just get some lycra and put it down.

SM cars are legal there and they don't have rear seats.

"Painted of finished" behind the B pillar. "no racecar interior"

Sounds like as long as you make an effort to clean up/paint the area you expose its all good. But 3000lbs w/o driver might as well keep the rear half intact.

Another dumb question. What about the lining in the trunk? As in everything cloth or plastic in there. Can that go or must it stay?

If you're retaining FWD I think that'll be possible as I know of a few AWD XP cars that are around that, although I do think you'll need a good bit of composites on the front end to achieve that. Not saying it can't be done, but you won't have anything resembling an interior to get there.

I would wager it could go. I'd leave the little plastic divider in place (which weighs about .25 lbs...yes, I weighed it) so it wasn't visible.

For reference, without ballast rules I figure I could hit high 2,5xx's in SM with a 2000 RS in SM legal trim. That's fuel cell, absolutely the lightest seats, custom intake manifold, everything trimmed to the last bit. If you gutted the doors, gutted the interior, 2lbs carbon hood/bumper/everything up front, light weight wheels (talking 10 lbs in 15 or 16"), bumper beams, EPS, and a whole bunch of other stuff, then added enough covering in the interior to look finished I would wager you could do it. Would be a LOT of effort though and still be going against miata/lotus setups that have considerably better suspensions and driving the right wheels.

Not naysaying, just giving real world experience

Not looking to win nationals or anything (XS isn't even a national level class yet), just bought something cheap and fun to drive. XS class fits more into what I want and can do with the car as opposed to the limitations in STH and the insane expensive tires in SM. I've always wanted to full-prep a car, but I can't tow it so its got to be streetable at the same time.

My main concern with the trunk bits is just looking at the trunk area most of the bits are in terrible shape and I just want to yank them out for now. Better option than spending money on new bits.

"Must be licensed and insured",

This is something that is a pet peeve of mine. In CA it is very difficult to do a legal engine swap. Basically no "Good" EJ engine mods are technically street legal. If you have cams, your car isn't legally registered. I'm just waiting for some kill joy to protest that the racecar isn't legally licensed.

The class is specifically designed for heavily modified STREET cars. If you want a race car then run it in one of the racecar classes.

Or move to a state that's not CA so you don't have to pass silly laws while the hotrod next to you is running a carb and no cats.

Licensed and insured doesn't mean must pass smog

You can easily do a 400whp build that will pass smog, more if you plan on swapping the cat when its time for the 2 year smog test.

The one thing I find most annoying is that you can't pass a smog inspection with an AOS

Removing catalytic converters is a federal offense. The difference is in states that don't check you can be licensed/registered. In states that do enforce it you have a harder time.

It's a dumb rule, but mirrors CAM for wording.

Its a blanket rule that allows for people to not have to write out each item that is generally regulated by the state already for a "street car". But yes like most blanket rules it lets a small group wiggle past.

For me to get my highly modified car licensed and registered I can just give them my home address and they don't ever look at my car because of my county laws not requiring it. Rural living FTW.

Thank you, this will make class change much easier. It is possible I'm over thinking it because Ill likely only build and tune for 375-400 whp. I have a lot of seat time to take advantage of before I make any kind of crazy power
